Tom Arbuthnot from Modality Systems joins Patrick to discuss the latest pieces news on the Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business platforms that were revealed in July.

In a podcast usually dominated by Microsoft Teams news, the lead story is finally about Skype for Business!

Skype for Business Server 2019 edition is now available in public preview and Tom explains that this is pretty big news for all those who want to stay on premise for Microsoft communication. Tom runs through the main differences between the new edition and its predecessor.

Patrick and Tom have then had enough of Skype so move onto the new updates for Microsoft Teams. Citrix will be working on optimising the use of Teams in virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments which is big news for lots of organisations that operate that model.

Tom then takes Patrick through the various updates for Teams which include: Live events for up-to 10000 people, Powerpoint sharing, a new translation feature, being able to send code snippets, notifications over the top of DND, Skype contacts in Teams, new keyboard shortcuts, joining Teams with a code, and now you can have up to 250 in meetings.

The pod also cover off the news that Teams will be releasing a free version along similar lines to a competitor like Slack.

Patrick also asks Tom about the new Office 365 usage analytics that are now available for both Teams and Skype offering insights on usage and efficiency.

Finally the guys look ahead to upcoming events that relate to the various Microsoft platforms.
