For years, companies of all sizes have relied on headsets to improve productivity and efficiency in the workforce. Whether you’re tuning into a video conference, or listening to important information as you work, a good set of headphones really makes a world of difference.

The latest innovations in business headsets have introduced the average employee to a host of incredible new functions. We have headsets that can actively block out distracting noise, and earphones that you can control with just your voice. Now, there’s a new trend emerging in the era of the “wireless” worker – true wireless earbuds.

The World Needs More True Wireless

As ICT Industry Director for Frost and Sullivan’s Digital Transformation team, Alaa Saayed (@Alaasaayed), announced on Twitter, “we need more true wireless headsets”. According to Saayed, wireless headsets make sense from a business perspective because they’re lightweight and easy to wear all day. Those are two very important factors for people who tend to have a headset strapped onto their ears for 9-12 hours at a time.

However, to be truly successful in the business space, Alaa noted that these wireless headsets would need to be equipped with the right ANC technology (Active Noise Cancellation). Most of the current consumer versions of true wireless earbuds don’t have the right quality of ANC or rely on passive noise cancellation alone. The tech would also need to be certified with UC tools, according to Saayed, and provided with USB dongle options.

Alaa’s statement on Twitter sparked an interesting conversation about true wireless devices, and what they could mean to the future of work. Having two earbuds with no interconnecting cable gets rid of a myriad of inconveniences, like having to untangle wires before you can join a meeting.

Users would also have the benefit of a set of earbuds they could quickly access and use without having to plug anything in. All you would need to do is switch your earbuds on and let them connect automatically to your system via Bluetooth.

The Future of the True Wireless Worker

True wireless headphones could be the future of headsets for the mobile worker. In an environment where employees demand more freedom and flexibility, there’s nothing more freeing than having absolutely no wires to tie you down. Already, sales of true wireless earbuds are set to increase to around 230 million units by the end of this year, according to Statista.

Wireless earbuds would do away with the fiddly plugs and annoying wires of traditional headsets, giving you the option to enjoy high-quality sound in a brand-new way. There are many varieties of quality earbuds on the market now that come with business-ready features built in. You can find buds with noise isolation technology, touch controls, and access to virtual assistants.

Strong Bluetooth connections mean you can link to the device you want to use instantly, and there’s no need to search for the right plug socket. What do you think, is the future of headphones going to be truly wireless?
