Sangoma has shipped its one millionth IP desk phone which is sold as part of its cloud communications suite.

The cloud communications provider calls the desk phones a “highly strategic complement” to cloud comms services.

Sangoma’s one millionth IP desk phone was sent to Jenne Inc., which is a longstanding Sangoma partner.

Jim Machi, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Sangoma, said:

“Desk phones are still a very important part of our portfolio, a part that our customers depend upon very heavily, including and especially as a part of our cloud solution.

“Many of our customers use both desk phones as well as our mobile and desktop clients to communicate.

“And since we manufacture our own desk phones and develop our own cloud communications software, we are able to provide deep integration between our phones and our cloud communications services, in a way that other phone manufacturers or UCaaS companies simply cannot do.

“This kind of integration has contributed to the successful growth of this important product line at Sangoma, differentiating us from our competitors and leading to this one-million-unit

milestone.”

The desk phones work seamlessly with the rest of the cloud comms suite designed by Sangoma.

Included in the cloud comms suite are the desk phone, Sangoma’s On-Premises or UCaaS system, mobile and desktop client software, a video meetings service (Sangoma Meet), and a collaboration-as-a-service client (Team Hub).

According Sangoma, customers are getting unique capabilities when they purchase its desk phones.

When the desk phone is coupled with Sangoma’s UCaaS system, for example, customers can see their voicemails from the phone’s screen.

Alternatively, when the desk phone is used with the company’s CCaaS offering, users can view call queues from the phones, as well as via the soft client.

The recipient of the one millionth Sangoma desk phone, Dean Jenne, President of Sales, Jenne Inc., said: “We’ve had a long and very successful relationship with Sangoma.

“And part of that, is the excellence of their ‘all built in-house’ UCaaS solution, which includes tightly integrated desk phones designed for their UC environment.

“Desk phones continue to be an important part of the overall UC solution set, especially to brick-and-mortar businesses.

“The achievement of delivering one million phones to the marketplace is impressive and will continue to be a big part of Jenne’s overall success, whether that is in delivering cloud-based or on-premises solutions.”

Sangoma delivers Communications as a Service (CaaS) for businesses of all sizes. As well as its cloud software solutions, it also offers a line of communications products, including premise-based UC systems, desk phones, headsets, and a connectivity suite.

The company also sponsors and develops Asterisk and FreePBX, the most popular open-source communication software projects.

Are Desk Phones Still Relevant?

In this digital age of video conferencing, virtual events, chat, collaboration applications, and more, desk phones may be beginning to feel a bit behind the times. Hitting one million desk IP phone shipments, however, Sangoma’s figures seem to suggest otherwise.

The fact is, for now at least, desk phones serve a number of vital purposes for businesses worldwide. Depending on which phone you have, they can help keep teams connected and improve communications between vendors and end customers.

Desk phones allow for fast, synchronous communications, which is important across all verticals.

For those industries that deal with emergencies, such as healthcare, they are particularly crucial, allowing a direct line to voice communications at any time.

Other enterprises need welcome desks to direct conversations and answer requests. Customer service businesses require desk phones for managing and booking appointments.

Governments still rely on desk phones for their secured conversations.

It is also important to note that many people simply prefer using desk phones to other forms of digital communication. The explosion in video conferencing took place during the pandemic, which was not too long ago, and there are many who would rather communicate in person or by phone.

The future of desk phones is not guaranteed, but according to a discussion with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise last year, the devices are likely to evolve and refine in the coming years. Desk phone vendors will need to think of new ways to keep their products relevant and valuable to the market.
