Leading provider of collaboration solutions for remote work, LogMeIn, recently revealed some new insights. According to a global study conducted with the help of IDG, IT leaders are increasingly nervous about the scalability and security potential of remote work.

Specifically, these business leaders are concerned that the tools adopted in the early days of the pandemic may not be suitable for long-term plans. Around 65 per cent of those surveyed are working to consolidate their remote work solutions, looking for better ease-of-use, scalability, and administration.

The recent report suggests that there’s a way to go before companies are confidently using the most secure, and effective remote work tools. However, it’s important for a transformation to happen fast, as the surge in remote work is exposing 66 per cent of respondents to cyber risks. Additionally, IT help desks are struggling to assist workers as 31 per cent expect to use vulnerable devices when working remotely, and 45 per cent rely on unsecured home Wi-Fi.

Growing Concerns About Remote Work

Significant worries about the solutions available for today’s remote workers are pushing IT teams to discover more integrated remote support and access solutions. Around 60 per cent of respondents said they’re thinking of increasing investment in remote work tools, with the average spend increasing by 21 per cent this year.

Another two-thirds of respondents said they’re looking into consolidating tools with a trusted vendor in 2021. Additionally, 84 per cent of respondents said that they’re keen to maintain remote work tools because they enhance productivity.

LogMeIn notes that these statistics highlight the impact the pandemic has had on the remote work trend. Flexible operation is the new normal, and IT leaders need to have strategies in place to empower remote team members. Technology ranging from video conferencing tools to remote access solutions comes with various challenges and concerns to consider. A well-considered plan for secure, long-term, and flexible support is essential.

Planning for Life After the Pandemic

According to Senior Director of Content Strategies and Operations for IDG Communications, Barbara Call, the research in this study shows that as companies transition to remote work, there’s a rising need for remote support and access solutions that deliver more security while increasing user productivity. The study reveals that IT leaders should be prioritising support and remote access tools that reduce disruptions and empower remote workers.

Notably, companies need to invest in solutions for the future, rather than just “making do” due to the pandemic. The study’s respondents are already indicating that they’re looking for ways to consolidate tools and reduce IT headaches.

Head of Remote Solutions for LogMeIn, Dave Campbell, said that the study shows companies are re-evaluating their remote work strategies and will need to make changes going forward. Teams are seeing how important it is to consider the way that modern tools will impact employees and helpdesk staff. Greater emphasis must be placed on solutions that reduce disruptions in employee activities, without compromising on security and privacy for remote workers.
