Cyber security is a hot issue for businesses, particularly with GDPR only a week away (yes, next Friday is the deadline, 25th May). Day two of UC EXPO, Europe’s largest dedicated Unified Communications and Collaboration (UC&C) event opened with a topical keynote from Chris Hadnagy, “Chief Human Hacker” of Social-Engineer LLC, who gave attendees a firm warning about the threat of social engineering within organisations.

Hadnagy delved into the wide variety of hacking techniques that can be a risk to businesses, reminding the audience of the importance for both individuals and companies to be educated on cyber security issues.

He wasn’t the only one cautioning attendees on cyber security practices. The topic continued to dominate conversations throughout the day with seminars from Lawrence Miller of Symphony Communication Services, who prompted attendees to think about who has access to their company data, and Johan Hybinette of Vonage who provided plenty of advice on how consumer-focused communications services can prepare for GDPR.

Commenting on Day two of UC EXPO, Bradley Maule-ffinch, EMEA Portfolio Director for UC EXPO said:

“In the run up to GDPR, cyber security has never been a more important part of the UC&C strategy organisations choose to deploy. The need for this was really highlighted by Chris’ opening keynote. More broadly, our exhibitors and speakers from today’s seminar sessions have provided attendees with a holistic view of the UC&C landscape, the challenges this technology addresses and what the future holds for UC&C. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again next year for UC EXPO 2019.”

Beyond cyber security, artificial intelligence also proved to be a popular topic amongst attendees. Speakers covered a range of topics around how AI can transform unified communications and improve workplace productivity. Highlight sessions included:

  • Zeus Kerravala, Founder and Principal Analyst, ZK Research provided insights into understanding the role of AI in unified communications
  • Ric Harvey, Technical Developer Evangelist, Amazon Web Services educated attendees on how to serve customers with AI from the cloud
  • Rob Pickering, CEO and Founder, IPCortex revealed how to optimise value by adding AI and context into communications
  • A captivating panel discussion chaired by Sara Uzel of Technology Trends Group with Steve Dietz of Fuze, Graham Mackay of Generation Digital and Julian Wiggins of Vodafone on the future of work and adoption for tech in the evolving workforce

UC EXPO returns to ExCeL London on 15th and 16th May 2019. You can still get involved on Twitter @UCEXPO or by searching the #UCEXPO hashtag.
