If you needed greater versatility and more time-saving solutions with your Linux solution for 3CX, then the latest update is bound to impress. The fifth update in the series brings with it the final release of 3CX for Linux, which now has a complete feature parity with its Windows version. 3CX is an open-standard software-based PBX service that can work perfectly alongside SIP trunks, IP phones and more. It’s a great solution for Unified Communications which can offer various features including softphones, presence, web conferencing, smartphone clients and more.

With update 5, 3CX have delivered further automation to the Linux edition for the general use of 3CX. What’s more, they’ve also ensured that it’s simpler to use 3CX through some of the leading cloud hosting providers.

Auto Backups, Restores, and Updates

With the new update, a host of management tasks can now be done automatically, or through a few simple clicks. In other words:

  • Digital receptionists can be configured as part of a wake-up call service extension
  • Labs features can allow you to test upcoming updates released in beta
  • Tested phone firmware options are automatically downloaded for easy one-click services in network-wide installations
  • 3CX field-tested product updates are installed automatically
  • Operating system security solutions and updates are installed automatically
  • Failover is easier to configure
  • Backups can be automatically restored to another service if a failover is configured
  • Backups can be automatically copied over to a Google Drive account

Other improvements that have been introduced alongside the latest version of 3CX for Linux include:

  • Chat messages that can be automatically pushed onto Android and iOS clients
  • Mac and Windows clients can now be bundled with the main install
  • DID source identification has been enhanced to reduce DID configuration
  • Easy configuration of Office 365 and Gmail accounts for notification emails sent by the PBX

Current Issues with the Latest Version

Despite all the benefits that come with the fifth version of 3CX, it’s worth noting that there are still a few issues present in the system. For example, users that are upgrading from V14 with custom welcoming email templates will lose the changes that they have made upon restore. Additionally:

  • Reports on Linux can’t be saved in PDF format. This feature will be added by 3CX during the next update, but for now it’s recommended that users stick to HTML format
  • The Linux version of the latest update does not include LDAP and ODBC, and 3CX currently have no plans to add these features to the system at any time.
  • When using Google drive as a location for system backups, there is a chance that users will encounter the following exception: “Google.Apis.Requests.RequestError”. This issue implies that there is insufficient permissions provided for the specified parent. To fix the issue, you can share the folder and set access to “is owner” or change abilities to “can organise, add and edit”.
  • Changes have been made to the inbuilt Yealink and Snom templates. During an upgrade, users with custom templates will need to update their templates.
