This week marks the release of the Microsoft Whiteboard Preview – an innovative application designed to help nurture free-form thinking, improve creativity & collaboration and help users bring their ideas to life.

Having first unveiled their SurfaceHub Whiteboard app earlier in 2017, Microsoft have now released a preview version of a Whiteboard app for all Windows 10 users, enabling teammates to quickly share information and collaborate in real-time using digital ink.

Unlike the SurfaceHub Whiteboard app, a tool that specifically caters to large-screen scenarios, the new app can be used to put together images, create mock-ups, add notes and (when used with Office 365) carry out interactive brainstorming sessions across multiple devices at any time and from any location around the world.

“In the course of our private beta, we saw start-ups use it to put together images, mock-ups, and notes as an inspiration board for their next big idea. We witnessed marketing agencies use it in online meetings as they work with clients on product designs in real time.

“Our team uses it to diagram engineering plans, with remote participants filling in their respective areas on the same working canvas. Ultimately, we see Microsoft Whiteboard Preview as enhancing how people go from personal ideation, team brainstorms, and group discussions to their finished products.” – Microsoft Whiteboard Team Blog

The preview version of the Whiteboard app for Windows 10 is available in the Windows store now for users to try, test and give feedback. Once Microsoft has made all the necessary tweaks based on what they have learned from the user during this trial period, we can expect to see the full version arrive sometime next year.
