The Snom M85 Industrial Handset Telephone is the Telecoms Developer’s new DECT phone designed to deliver robust and reliable communications support to businesses operating in industrial environments.
Snom tells us that the M85 is one of the most resilient and user-friendly DECT phones available on the market and delivers a unique set of features to help drastically improve communications and durability in a number of different ways – but how much truth is there in these claims?
In order to find out, we’ve decided to do a review on the product and test how well it lives up to Snom’s reputation as one of the world’s leading producers of high quality business phones.
How does it look?
When purchasing the Snom M85, users will receive a durable, compact handset that’s small enough to fit inside the pocket of any busy industrial worker, giving them a reliable, hardy phone that enables them to communicate freely without restricting their manual duties.
What can it do?
Developed specifically for indoor and outdoor use in industrial settings, the M85 is coated in a robust, shockproof casing that protects its interior from bangs, scrapes, water damage and dust build up to ensure the phone will still function perfectly in harsh construction or warehouse environments.
Taking into account the numerous dangers potentially present in such environments, the M85 also features a fully programmable alarm key that will send an automatic cry for help to any chosen number should the worker find themselves in an emergency situation.
To add further safety measures, the M85’s (rather ominously named) ‘dead man’s sensor’ can detect if the handset has been motionless for an extended period of time and (if programmed to do so) will send out an emergency message to the relevant number so they can come and provide assistance to the unconscious employee.
Moreover, the M85 also features an operational wrist loop that will trigger an alarm when ripped from the handset to ensure that immediate action can be taken if a worker ever gets caught in a dangerous, or life-threatening situation.
As well as this, the M85 also offers long-life battery with a range of up to 50m indoors and 300m outdoors. Moreover, the phone also features Bluetooth connectivity and a 3.5mm jack for headset accessory attachments to add further mobility and enable manual workers to communicate freely without disrupting their objectives.
As well as being an ultimate tool to ensure the safety of each user is maintained, when paired with an M700 or M300 base station, users can also utilise many phone system features such as voicemail, automatic call forwarding, call lists, caller identification and direct search within the company’s directory.

What did we like most?
When you take into consideration that the M85 was built specifically for industrial workers operating in dangerous environments, the emergency alarm and dead man’s sensor features were very impressive and show what lengths Snom has gone to ensure their customers are safe from harm.
