A recent survey conducted by Frost & Sullivan, alongside BroadSoft, found that 90% of all telecom providers surveyed felt that integrated and cloud-based platforms were able to speed up time to market for the delivery of UC offerings to business consumers. The results from the survey suggest that an integrated solution for SaaS unified collaboration and communications can give telecom providers the chance to be more competitive in their rapidly-evolving market space, through reduced sales cycles, enhanced offerings, and new opportunities for revenue.

The results reported for the SaaS revolution report completed by Frost and Sullivan were based on extensive interviews with a collection of 20 senior executives at global telecom providers across the fourth quarter of 2016. From the research that was provided, it’s easy to see that telecom businesses need to adapt their priorities with the rapidly developing UCaaS marketing, as most respondents feel that a cloud-based platform helps to speed up time to market. What’s more, 63% believe that this cloud-based solution reduces dependence on scarce resources, while over half (52%), feels it allows them to transition to a more profitable SaaS OpEX model from CapEX.

An Examination of the Latest Report

If we delve a little deeper into the report conducted by Frost and Sullivan, which can be found here, we find:

  • 55% of respondents believe that the integration of multiple vendor technologies for cloud solutions is a challenge.
  • 75% want to improve awareness for their solutions, while only 55% support online ordering.
  • 80% feel that their culture encourages rapid innovation, while 40% agree that internal processes make such an outcome realistic.
  • 45% plan to deploy turnkey solutions operated and hosted by third-party organisations to improve their own ability to offer innovative services, with most expecting that the switch will be made during the next 12 months.
  • 90% of telecom providers feel that cloud-based turn-key platforms could speed time to market.

Right now, we’re seeing a huge acceleration of adoption rates in the UCaaS market, alongside intensified competition. Service providers are often uniquely positioned to lead and capitalise on this transformation, according to North American Program Director for Frost and Sullivan, Elka Popova. The latest survey gave a deeper insight into the priorities of service providers, as well as the challenges that they face. The conclusion was that a managed platform simply reduces and improves the cost of service delivery, while ensuring a more comprehensive and frequently-updated offering for service provider customers.

Telecom providers are beginning to recognise that the most cost-effective and rapid product innovation is essential to driving business in this highly-competitive UCaaS market. Today, they’re looking to vendors to provide more flexible delivery options. According to the chief marketing and digital officer for BroadSoft, Taher Behbehani, their company is currently remaining focused on offering and developing a complete range of models for delivery, including BroadCloud – the PaaS offering powered by their go-to-market BroadSoft program.

 UC Today Opinion

It seems like a no brainer that cloud based telephony solutions allow telecoms providers to deliver services faster. However, companies prefer to take their own path to the cloud, often an on-premise solution is the right fit.

It’s still a battleground for the IP-PBX and the Cloud PBX, check out our ‘PBX versus Cloud‘ debate here.
