Less than one in five IT professionals (19%) are prioritising voice calls when moving their IT infrastructure to the cloud – despite 55% of office workers still seeing their phones as an essential part of office communication. That’s according to research by business communications provider Fuze, released this week at IP Expo Europe.

The research, which incorporates feedback from 900 IT professionals and 6,600 office workers, identifies the top priorities of IT professionals and their boards. For executive teams, the biggest priority for IT departments is to improve security (57%), followed by reducing costs (52%) and migrating to the cloud (42%).

With regards to migrating specific communication functions, many IT professionals are failing to prioritise voice calls, focusing instead on email and instant messaging.

Commenting on this trend at IP Expo, Michael Affronti, VP of Product at Fuze, said:

“For a lot of IT professionals, voice calls are seen as an outdated form of communication and they are often left behind when it comes to deciding a business’ cloud migration strategy. In reality, however, voice remains an integral part of the average office worker’s day, sitting alongside video calling and instant messaging apps.

“Instead of pushing voice to the back of the queue, businesses should look to transfer all of their communication tools in tandem, using the move to the cloud as an excuse to integrate their communications approach.”
