Zoom Apps SDK has been added to its developer platform to provide developers with support and resources to build Zoom apps.

Using this software, developers will be able to target their apps to Zoom users by listing them in the Zoom App Marketplace and the Zoom client. Users will then be able to install the apps, even while they are in meetings.

Developers have already published over 100 Zoom apps, including team collaboration, meeting productivity, social networking, gaming, and more.

Brendan Ittelson, Chief Technology Officer at Zoom, said: “To meet customer expectations, organizations continue to look for ways to evolve their businesses and scale workflows, which leads to an increased need for developers to have access to develop innovative app capabilities and features.”

“With the launch of the Zoom Apps SDK, the Zoom Developer Platform continues to expand and offer developers new ways to incorporate video communications and collaboration into their creations, transforming business workflows forever.”

Zoom Apps SDK will enable developers to create new collaborative and engaging experiences both inside and outside of Zoom Meetings.

The SDK is built on JavaScript and allows access to features such as the Virtual Background settings and app context for the interaction.

Zoom says it is essentially “a method to get the meeting context, with identifiers for the user and meeting”. API endpoints, including Webhooks and REST APIs from the Zoom Developer Platform, can be used in conjunction with these identifiers.

Apps created via the new SDK work within Zoom Meetings and in the Zoom desktop window.

Irwin Lazar, President and Principal Analyst at Metrigy, said: “The ability to leverage APIs to enable application integration and innovation is a critical digital transformation need.

“More than 84% of IT professionals in our research say that API availability is important for employee and customer engagement use cases.

“General availability of the Zoom Apps SDK will make it easier and faster for developers to deliver business benefits through a variety of ways.”

A Quick Guide to Zoom Apps SDK

Zoom has shared a four-step guide to getting an app published on its marketplace using Zoom Apps SDK:

  1. Build the app using the Zoom Apps SDK.
  2. Complete the submission checklist, including marketing, privacy, legal, support, and technical information.
  3. Submit the app for functionality and usability testing and a security and compliance review.
  4. Publish to the App Marketplace, making the app available to all users through an embeddable button.

Zooms Apps was launched last year to allow its users to access applications from within Zoom Meetings and the desktop client experience.

Yesterday, Zoom suffered an outage, leaving thousands of users unable to use its video conferencing services.
