Cisco, Microsoft, and NVIDIA Just Changed the Game for Meeting Rooms

Rob Scott interviews Espen Løberg at WebexOne 2025 to explore Cisco’s partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA. Discover how MDEP, RoomOS, and NVIDIA AI are redefining Teams Rooms, Webex, and Zoom experiences with security, flexibility, and next-gen collaboration.

At WebexOne in San Diego this week, I caught up with Espen Løberg, VP of Product Management for Cisco Collaboration Devices, on the expo floor. The event was buzzing, and the spotlight was firmly on AI — particularly Cisco Webex's new MDEP partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA.

Løberg was clear about why this matters:

“MDEP will bring the most secure way of collaborating in the Microsoft Teams environment — and when you combine that with the world’s most secure meeting room devices, you get something no one else in the market can match.”

He went on to outline how agentic AI will begin shaping the meeting experience. From intelligent note-takers and virtual facilitators to devices that dynamically adjust camera views based on room size and participation, Cisco is aiming to make meetings smarter and more inclusive.

One of the most striking developments is the integration of 3D digital twins into Cisco Control Hub. By capturing a detailed model of the meeting space, IT administrators can instantly identify equipment gaps, receive AI-driven recommendations, and even automate meeting zone configurations.

And behind it all is a significant leap in performance: according to Løberg, AI compute on these devices is now 7,000x more powerful than before!

7,000x more powerful than before.”

That processing power, he argued, positions Cisco to deliver the most secure, intelligent, and adaptive collaboration experiences in the industry.

The message from Cisco is clear — this partnership isn’t just about adding another platform. It’s about setting a new standard for the modern meeting room, powered by AI at the edge.

What is MDEP? Microsoft Device Ecosystem Platform

In 2024, Microsoft launched its new Device Ecosystem Platform (MDEP), an Android-based system designed to streamline the creation of devices for Microsoft Teams Rooms and other collaboration spaces. MDEP aims to enhance security, deliver a consistent user experience, and simplify IT management for businesses. Built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), the platform incorporates additional security, management, and integration features from Microsoft, making it an ideal solution for device manufacturers and developers.
