Microsoft has announced it will end support for versions of its Surface Hub.
"Effective October 14, 2025, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 Team edition on Surface Hub v1 and Surface Hub 2S,"
Microsoft mentioned on a blog.
But beyond missing out on the latest updates or security patches, one key feature being lost may render these older editions of the Surface Hub obsolete for many users.
Examining Surface Hub
Microsoft Surface Hub is a large, interactive collaboration device designed to transform any workspace into a dynamic teamwork environment.
It features a high-definition touchscreen, advanced pen input for natural writing and drawing, and integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, and Office 365 apps to facilitate real-time communication, brainstorming, and content sharing across locations.
After the support is pulled, however, Surface Hub devices running Windows 10 Team will no longer receive security updates, patches, or support, and most critically, the Microsoft Teams app will stop functioning.
This, for a device that is billed as "bringing the best of Microsoft Teams Rooms to any space," essentially means companies who have been relying on these older versions will now need to replace their hardware in order to continue facilitating in-person meetings.
Microsoft advises customers using Surface Hub v1 to upgrade to Surface Hub 3, while customers who have Surface Hub 2S have several choices before operating system support ends on October 14.
