Cisco has announced the launch of a new datacentre in Frankfurt, Germany. This facility aims to serve customers using the collaboration platform in Webex within the EU, the Middle East, Africa, and Russia. According to Cisco, the new datacentre is scheduled to be operational by the end of June 2021.
In recent months, companies from all sectors rapidly increased their investment in remote working solutions, to enable business continuity. The shift to a new style of working, combined with a demand to keep staff connected, increased the growing demand for cloud-based collaboration platforms. Since the start of the pandemic, Cisco notes that the use of collaboration tools like Webex has increased by 74 per cent. Webex alone has around 600 million participants per quarter on average.
Supporting the Future of Hybrid Work
According to President for Cisco in EMEA, Wendy Mars, the workplace is going hybrid. The right tools for collaboration are essential in supporting and enabling digital workers, regardless of their proficiency in technology, language, or geography.
Webex and Cisco have a strong history of assisting employees in staying productive and innovating wherever they are. Since the pandemic, Webex has continued to assist businesses with ongoing growth, and it has also been a crucial tool for governments, educators, and healthcare providers too. In December 2020, Cisco announced various new Webex innovations to make 10x better experiences for virtual meetings. In March 2021, Webex customers can even preview real-time translations in more than 100 languages.
Throughout 2021, Cisco’s plan is to continue scaling Cisco Webex datacentre solutions to deliver more flexibility to customers. The new German datacentre is part of this strategy and will complement existing datacentres in the space, allowing more opportunities to host data in the EU.
Exciting Datacentre Technologies
Cisco’s newly created datacentres in Frankfurt shows off the company’s latest selection of technologies, including the Cisco ASR Routing platform, providing high-throughput connectivity into the datacentre space, ideal for applications that demand high bandwidth, such as streaming video or audio. Within the datacentre, the Cisco Application infrastructure will connect all components in a scalable and secure way, offering capabilities for easy management and troubleshooting too.
The Cisco Unified Computing System that combines industry-standard servers with storage and networking is also a crucial part of the environment. The UCS provides all the server capacity required for the solution and offers automated computing scaling based on user demand. Cisco ThousandEye’s cloud and internet intelligence platform offers visibility and insights into the delivery of services and applications.
The full architecture is protected by the Cisco Firepower solution for end-to-end security. The highly resilient datacentre opening in Frankfurt will incorporate Cisco technologies and products to boost energy efficiency, including internal components, power supplies, and cooling systems, and it will run entirely on renewable energy.
