Microsoft Teams has become the central hub of productivity for many modern businesses. In the age of hybrid work, Teams has become an environment where companies can effectively align their team members through shared chat, video, and audio. You can even share files and screens through Teams.
As a component of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, Teams is also aligned with the various other apps and tools companies use to manage projects daily. For instance, you can easily share calendars on Outlook and presentations through PowerPoint.
Suppose you’re already using Microsoft Teams as the environment for connecting teams and enabling collaboration in your organisation. In that case, it only makes sense to use the technology for tracking projects too. Today, we’re going to look at how you can track projects with Microsoft Teams apps.
How to Track individual Projects on Microsoft Teams
If you’re looking for an easy way to track individual projects (such as personal tasks or your to-do list) on Microsoft Teams, you have a couple of options available.
Teams have their own embedded tools to make organising life a little easier for individual users. For instance, you can set up your calendar on Outlook and integrate it with Microsoft Teams to track upcoming deadlines and determine which tasks need to be completed first.
If you need a little extra help staying organised, you can use the “Tasks” app within Teams”. Once Tasks is implemented in Teams, you’ll be able to open it to see:
- My Tasks: A collection of your specific tasks, including information from your To-Do list, Outlook, and any tasks assigned to you in Planner
- Shared Plans: This includes any Planner plans added to Teams
Here’s how you can add your Tasks app to Teams. Another convenient Project Tracker tool linked to Teams is “To Do”. The “To Do” app allows you to create lists of tasks you need to accomplish. You’ll be able to see these lists within the “My Tasks” section in Teams.
Tracking Group Projects in Teams
If you’re tracking group projects, you’ll have a range of options in Teams. First, there’s the “Planner” app within Teams, which a Teams administrator can add. You can add a Planner tab to any Team channel and work on plans within Teams. Planner also allows you to set up notifications within Teams and assign specific tasks with due dates to team members.
To leverage planner within Teams, click on “Add a Tab” and click on the “Tasks by Planner and To Do”. Create a new tax list in the dialogue box to make a new plan within Planner. The Planner app is a simple way to assign tasks and keep track of upcoming work.
If you need a more comprehensive environment for tracking group projects, you can upgrade to Teams’ “Project” app. Similarly, to Planner, you can add “Project” to a tab in Teams, then create a new roadmap, or upload an existing one.
Project allows you to assign tasks to individual users, measure the process of various tasks, and keep an eye on your entire team at once. You can even create multiple planning views, like the “Board” view for a Kanban-style rundown of work.
Third-Party Project Tracker Apps in Teams
The Microsoft Teams Project Tracker apps built into the Microsoft ecosystem are excellent for keeping your entire company on the same page. However, you’re not limited to using these tools exclusively. The flexible AppSource marketplace within Microsoft Teams will also allow you to integrate various additional Project tracker apps into your workflows, such as:
