Zoom recently announced some of the findings from its Video Communications during COVID-19 report. The study, commissioned by Zoom from the Boston Consulting Group, examined which industries were most able to adjust their company’s operations to allow for the rise of video technology.
Spanning key industries from six countries around the globe, and five US states, the report notes some significant changes that have taken place over the last year. For instance, there’s been a 2.5-3x increase in the number of employees working remotely since the pandemic, and a 2.4-2.7% increase in staff using video conferencing.
The total time that users spend on video conferencing apps increased between 3-5x in the time period, and 70% of managers said they’re now more flexible to remote working than they were before the pandemic.
How the Pandemic Changed the World
Zoom and the Boston Consulting Group’s report notes that people around the w3orld rapidly adopted video conferencing and remote working when the pandemic hit. The swift application of remote working strategies in the US alone was able to save 2.28 million jobs.
Within the US, Zoom noted that around 88% of SMBs in California agreed that employees in their company were able to rapidly adopt video conferencing with minimal training. 75% of the companies in Illinois said that video helped to improve productivity during the pandemic, and 72% of participants in new York said video boosted morale.
In Florida, 61% of the companies that responded said that video conferencing is a must-have for remote work, and Texas companies saw a 13% increase in revenue after adopting video.
Zoom also noted that all industries were affected by the pandemic, but some felt the blow more than others. For instance, 67% of healthcare companies said that their organisation is now considering flexible remote working after implementing a successful video solution. In education, there was a 3.5x increase in the number of video solutions used during the pandemic.
