According to a report issued with an incredibly long name by MarketsandMarkets, we can expect to see some pretty significant growth in the Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV), and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) markets this year. In fact, for 2017, the growth rate is set at somewhere around $3.68 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 71.4%.
If the SDN and NFV environments continue to expand as they are right now, experts predict that the market will be worth $54.41 billion by 2022. That means that if you're a vendor in these spaces, it could be time for some (cautious) celebration.
The Leading Vendors in SDN and NFV
The MarketsandMarkets report outlined a collection of vendors who have been driving the positive movement for SDN and NFV this year, which includes Cisco, Intel, HPE, NEC, Nokia, Sony Ericsson AB, Juniper Networks, Huawei, and a lot more. Overall, there are 26 vendors on the report. Of course, it's not just the powerful marketing and innovation of these companies that we have to thank for a more profitable marketplace.

MarketsandMarkets Analysis - SDN and NFV[/caption]
SDN and NFV technologies have grown remarkably more popular in the recent months, as telecom service providers have looked for new ways to implement higher bandwidth flexibility, and better network capacity. The rise of Software-Defined networking means that today's telecoms companies can offer their end-customers a more versatile and "open" framework, thanks to the use of a programmable control layer.
It's the more customisable nature of SDN which is causing NFV to be adopted more widely across the market, reducing the congestion in local networks, improving the potential for bigger customers, and helping to bring down some of the costs that have previously been associated with network user growth.
