Livestorm Introduces New Video Engagement Platform

Livestorm’s VEP tackles screen fatigue with plugins, a marketplace and browser-based video engagement for virtual events. Published on UC Today.

Livestorm video engagement platform

Designed for the age of video conferencing, Livestorm’s new Video Engagement Platform (VEP), aims to help companies and event organisers in capturing and keeping audience engagement. As organisations everywhere invest more into the virtual event landscape, businesses have begun looking for more powerful and efficient platforms for hosting these experiences.

The right video platform needs to be easy-to-use, efficient, and capable of retaining engagement in a time when “screen fatigue” is a common problem. Livestorm has released a new Plugins SDK to help companies build their own plugins like linked shopping carts, custom backgrounds, quizzes, emojis, social feeds, and chats for an event room – just like a Chrome extension.

According to Livestorm, in the coming months, a marketplace will emerge for listing these plugins, with options including both Livestorm apps, and those created by third-party developers.

Video Continues to Rule the Digital Landscape

A survey conducted in April 2021 by Livestorm found video conferencing will continue to be crucial in the modern workday, with 68% of respondents saying they expect the use of video to remain the same. Another 44% said they believe video use will increase over the next 12 months.

Marketing Lead at Front, a Livestorm customer, Olivier Casassus said they’re very excited about the new features emerging to improve engagement for their events. Front currently uses Livestorm for both external and internal meetings. The Co-founder and CEO of Livestorm, Giles Bertaux says the new solution will overcome the issues of traditional video conferencing platforms, which often did nothing to help with engagement.

As video becomes a commodity, Livestorm wants to add features which make video events more dynamic and interactive, so audiences stick around for longer. The Livestorm solution operates completely in the browse, with no need for any downloads. According to Giles, the service was already one of the easiest video conferencing platforms for event attendees to embrace. The new engagement features now make Livestorm better than ever.

Experimenting with Video Engagement

New Livestorm plugins for event engagement are accessible now to a select group of customers, with full access planned for September 2021 on the marketplace. The plugins support Livestorm users to customise events according to their needs, and any developer can build their own.

To help enhance the plugin marketplace, Livestorm is also hosting a virtual four-week hackathon in September. During this time, developers can prototype various new plugins for Livestorm customers, and a panel of judges will select the top teams to participate in a Demo day, during which time the developers will present their project to the panel. A grand prize is available of $5,000.
