Ubisoft’s Stockholm office upgraded its audio infrastructure with high-performance Genelec loudspeaker systems to boost internal collaboration.
French video game publisher Ubisoft operates over 50 subsidiaries worldwide, including two in Sweden: Massive Entertainment in Malmö and Ubisoft Stockholm. When Ubisoft Stockholm relocated to its new office in Hagastaden, they chose to outfit their game development and leisure spaces with various high-performance Genelec loudspeaker systems.
Niklas Domander, IT and Project Manager at Ubisoft Sweden, enlisted systems integrator and consultant This Is Who I Am (Tiwia) and systems integrator Logic IT to handle the acoustics and technical installation.
The new office space includes various specialised rooms and facilities, such as a multipurpose Dolby Atmos room for demos, presentations, screenings, and other events.
Additionally, there is an Atmos recording studio, a second 5.1 studio, a video editing suite, and a striking central atrium that serves as both a reception area and a social hub for company-wide gatherings and events. High-performance Genelec loudspeaker systems have been installed throughout the premises to ensure exceptional audio quality.
“Working with audio in this studio is such a pleasure,” said Istvan Stenberg, Head of Audio at Ubisoft Stockholm. “Huge thanks to Niklas and Pär for creating such a smart, versatile and efficient audio ecosystem across the studio.”
It’s really improved and streamlined our workflow, from the analysis of reference material in the audio room, through to recording and feedback – now much easier and quicker thanks to the connection of both studios via our RedNet Dante system. With Genelecs in both the Control room and in the Recording room we can play back the recorded material to the artists and get instant feedback that is precise and sonically correct – which is a huge time saver.”
More Specifics On The Installation
Logic IT installed an audio system in Ubisoft Stockholm’s main atrium reception area and kitchen, using Genelec’s 4000 Series loudspeakers. The setup includes two compact 4020s and six larger 4030s for high-quality background music (BGM) that can deliver higher sound pressure levels (SPLs) when needed. “4000 Series loudspeakers are perfect for this type of space,” says Logic IT’s André Wilstrand, noting their ease of installation, stylish design, and long-term reliability.
Logic IT also implemented a Dante system for music playback using a Yamaha MTX5-D processor and integrated Ubisoft’s Teams setup for meetings.
Due to their small size, the recording studios posed acoustic challenges. Tiwia’s Pär Hörnell explained that they removed computers and used USB-C cables via fibre for noise reduction. Genelec’s GLM calibration software helped address low-frequency issues, creating optimal sound environments. The main 7.1.4 Atmos studio features Genelec smart active speakers, including 8331 models for LCR, 8330s for surrounds and overheads, and a 7360 subwoofer. The second studio is a 5.1 setup with 8330s and a 7350 subwoofer.
The highlight is a 9.2.4 Atmos multipurpose room, used for demos, press events, and team reviews, equipped with powerful Genelec speakers and connected to the studios via Focusrite RedNet.
“An initial mix in the 7.1.4 room allows us to see how the mix translates across various channel formats, hardware and environments,” added Stenberg. “And then we move into the multipurpose room and convert it into a mixing stage – we get a big screen, lots of air for frequencies to travel, great acoustics and the Genelec 9.2.4 system.”
“Since all our studios and speakers are set up using GLM, our mixes translate seamlessly across different environments. Additionally, the consistency between Genelec models helps maintain cohesion throughout the entire audio production process.”
