Patrick is joined by expert guest Bryn Norton who is EMEA Director for Solutions Architecture and Security at CenturyLink.
Bryn and Patrick first discuss the existing security landscape, especially considering the rise in use of collaboration tools creating more potential vulnerabilities for users. Bryn explains that to enable full UC and collaboration businesses have to open themselves up to threats, and protect against those to a certain degree.
"One of the things you see is that the security becomes an afterthought of a discussion - I see too many customers get fixated by the end goal."
CenturyLink have a different approach to security implementation, where it has to be at the foremost of any technology discussion at every stage. User adoption is also critical to security implementation, if end users aren't engaged and wary of potential threats then a business can't protect itself.
"Security is not just about confidentiality it's about integrity and access, it's those three components coming together"
Then Patrick asks Bryn to consider the main factors that businesses should be considering with security when they implement any new technology solution. The most important factor is thinking about exactly what organisations are trying to protect. Rather than the traditional approach of covering the whole network, maybe certain aspects are more important than others.
