Panopto Upgrades Platform with Webex Meetings Integration

Panopto’s Webex Meetings integration in Cisco Webex App Hub lets enterprises search, share and analyse recordings. Published on UC Today.

Panopto Webex Meetings integration

Panopto, a pioneer in video capture software, video content management systems, and inside-video search technology today announced, it would enhance its meeting intelligence solution for enterprises with a new integration with Cisco Webex Meetings, now available in the Cisco Webex App Hub. In a statement, a spokesperson for the company told UC Today:

"The new integration will facilitate organizations in transferring Webex Meetings recordings into Panopto's on-demand library"

There, users can search and share recordings at scale inside businesses and across virtual as well as physical campuses. 'Smart Chapters' is a new and useful feature, one that automatically generates a table of contents and a visual index of meetings. I'm told Panopto’s smart search feature extends YouTube-like search functionalities so users can view relevant conversations and that there is even a transcription feature.

The Webex Meetings integration is available with Panopto Enterprise at no extra cost, a solution jam-packed with features including unlimited storage, support, etc., for up to tens of thousands of end-users. Administrators only have to connect their Panopto and Webex environments using the Webex App Hub. And leveraging single sign-on (SSO), meetings are searchable via mobile devices and desktops.

A spokesperson for the company told me there is an analytics dashboard that provides administrators and educators with comprehensive data on who watches said videos, how long they watch, and what kind of interactions they have with the videos. This serves as an audit log for administrators and helps meeting hosts identify impactful moments that might require further follow up.

Many similar systems merely index meeting titles and descriptions, which requires employees to sift through video for long periods of time to find the exact section they need to locate. "It’s not only a waste of time, but it also frustrates employees who may give up and move on without the information they know exists," a spokesperson told me. With the aid of Panopto’s AI-powered video search capabilities employees can locate any moment they wish using any word or phrase spoken during a meeting. The goal here is to make employee productivity more attainable, I'm told:

"Panopto’s video content management system centralizes, secures, and organizes all meeting recordings at scale and extends administrators a wide variety of controls to determine which recordings route to Panopto"

For scenarios like employee training, users can access post-production workflows used to make recorded meetings appear more professional in nature. "Employees can record a presentation with Webex Meetings and then use Panopto to enhance it by adding YouTube videos, as well as other attachments and resources inside the video." For educators, there is a feature that lets them add quizzes in videos, with individual user results sent to a learning management system of choice.

The video editor does not necessitate users to download or install any extra software to edit Webex Meetings recordings - all work can be done from within a browser environment. The drag-and-drop interface lets users cut out parts of meetings and publish a new, more professional-looking video. Users can even revert back to the original recording if needed.
