Ribbon SBCs for Microsoft Operator Connect

Ribbon Communications has announced that its session border controller portfolio will support the Microsoft Operator Connect service.

Operator Connect for Microsoft is a feature recently announced at Microsoft Ignite 2021, The service offers users a new way to simply and quickly access PSTN calling through Microsoft Teams, using services from telephony operators outside of Microsoft. The solution simplifies the connection between Microsoft Teams and calling functionality for service providers.

Supporting The Microsoft Teams Service

According to EVP and General Manager at the Cloud and Edge Business Unit for Ribbon, Tony Scarfo, operators across the globe already use a wide selection of SBCs in their network, including several in the first wave of service provider partners for Operator Connect. Ribbon believes that its existing certifications with Microsoft, aligned with the support it can offer for Operator Connect make it a powerful solution in the current marketplace.

Ribbon Communications can enable its service provider customers to take full advantage of Ribbon SBCs to provide the high quality of business integration offered by Operator Connect.

The extensive SBC portfolio offered by Ribbon provides service providers, enterprise, and partners with the opportunity to choose the Microsoft Teams calling deployment model best suited to their technical and business needs. The core SBCs for the business, including the SBC Software Edition SWE, the SBC 7000, and the 5400 will deliver access to carrier-grade resiliency, reliability, and scale, alongside interoperability and support for Operator Connect.

Easy Access to Microsoft Solutions

As a leader in global communications software and network solutions, Ribbon already has a strong presence around the world, helping its customers to create immersive communication solutions. Ribbon also supports various Teams deployments through its SBC Software Edition solution “Lite” edition, and it’s SBC 2000, 1000, Ribbon Connect, and EdgeMarc Intelligent Edge.

Ribbon Connect provides a fully managed service to Ribbon partners that can help them to migrate enterprise users into a full Teams phone system in a matter of hours, rather than days or weeks. The decision to support Microsoft Operator Connect deployments was an obvious step for Ribbon, as many of the providers participating in the first rollout are already Ribbon customers.
