RingCentral Introduces SMS and Fax for Microsoft Teams

RingCentral adds SMS and eFax to Microsoft Teams, giving buyers a unified inbox, direct routing and embedded dialer.

RingCentral SMS and fax for Teams

RingCentral has announced the release of integrated SMS and fax for the RingCentral for Microsoft Teams platform.

The integration means users can now send and receive SMS messages and faxes without leaving the Teams app.

The SMS and eFax features are available on both RingCentral's embedded dialer and direct routing solutions.

Eric Kenney, Director of Product Marketing at RingCentral, spoke about the implications for Microsoft Teams: "At RingCentral, we've seen a 500% increase as a best-in-class telephony complement to Microsoft Teams, with 15 straight quarters of Five9's reliability, a broad set of phone integrations, best-in-class analytics, and much more.

"And we’re excited to announce the release of integrated fax and SMS in RingCentral for Microsoft Teams.

"This adds broader functionality to a Teams deployment, making it a complete communications tool."

Users can now send and receive messages to contacts in the company directory or to an external number.

SMS messaging means that users will have a unified inbox for all messages within the Teams app, as well as a unified business number.

Much like using a mobile phone, RingCentral allows for MMS messaging, emojis, and attachments, plus the ability to search text messages by looking up keywords.

According to RingCentral, sending a fax is as simple as selecting a file from your documents or cloud storage and choosing a recipient in your contacts.

No hardware is required; therefore, sending and receiving a fax via Microsoft Teams can be done from anywhere with an internet connection.

Users can keep existing fax numbers or set up toll-free business fax numbers within minutes.

The number can also be the same that is used to make voice calls or send SMS messages.

Currently, the SMS feature is only available in the USA and Canada, with eFax available to all users.

In May, RingCentral CEO Vlad Schmunis said that the company had seen its Microsoft Teams business rocket by 500 percent.

The company has also recently announced updates for RingCentral Rooms designed to improve hybrid working for users.
