There is a sound that anyone who has spent time on a video call in the last five years knows well. It is the sound of a colleague’s voice cutting in and out against a backdrop of traffic, construction, or the ambient hum of an open-plan office.
It is the sound of someone apologising for the wind, or asking – again – to be repeated. Background noise is one of the most common friction points in modern working life, and its impact on productivity, concentration, and call clarity is felt every day across hybrid and office environments alike.
The BH78 is Yealink’s answer to that problem. “If we find the user’s pain point, we need to solve these problems,” says Alex Lin, Headset Product Marketing Manager at Yealink.
"Maybe combining hardware and software together to make a whole solution.”
The headset market has long been driven by specifications – driver size, frequency response, battery life – but the real challenge in enterprise audio is environmental. It is not about what a device can do in a controlled setting. It is about what it can do when someone is walking through a factory floor, sitting in a glass-walled office, or taking a call from a kitchen table. That is the challenge that shaped the development of the BH78.
From Hybrid ANC to Adaptive Hybrid ANC
Active noise cancellation has been part of the headset market for some time. Hybrid ANC – which combines feed-forward and feedback microphones to reduce noise across a wide range of frequencies – marked a meaningful step forward, offering more effective cancellation than earlier single-microphone approaches.
The BH78 goes further with Adaptive Hybrid ANC. Rather than applying a fixed level of noise cancellation, Adaptive Hybrid ANC intelligently adjusts to the user’s environment in real time – dynamically modulating the degree of cancellation depending on what surrounds them. Whether a user moves from a quiet home office to a busy open-plan floor or steps outside into wind and traffic, the BH78 continuously recalibrates to deliver a focused calling and listening experience. The result is noise cancellation that works with the user’s environment rather than against it.
Microphone Noise Cancellation
Alongside its ANC capabilities, the BH78 features a 4-microphone AI noise cancellation system that addresses the other side of the audio equation – not just what the wearer hears, but how clearly they are heard.
The 4-microphone array works in conjunction with Yealink’s AI-powered Noise Cancelling Technology and Acoustic Shield 3.0 to isolate the speaker’s voice and intelligently filter out background noise. The person on the other end of the call hears only the speaker – clearly and without distraction – regardless of what is happening in the surrounding environment. For contact centre agents, remote workers, and anyone whose role depends on being understood as much as on understanding others, this is a meaningful capability.
