Microsoft has announced that Teams' function of translating live captions during meetings will be added to mobile devices later his year.
Currently only available on PCs and Macs, the live caption translation service will be introduced to Android and iOS users. In practice, this means that when mobile users start up a meeting,, they can choose live captions in the language of their choice. The new feature will be exclusive to Teams Premium.
As outlined on the official Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft promise the addition will make "for a more inclusive meeting experience". Although the Roadmap says the solution is still in development, it is scheduled to launch in August.
Microsoft Continue Expanding Their Translation Services
The addition continues Microsoft's building out of Teams' translation capabilities across different solutions, o to adapt to the needs of multinational organizations spanning different continents and languages.
Last year Microsoft launched their Teams Premium licence with live caption translations for meetings via desktop as a cornerstone feature. Microsoft also collaborated with the Welsh Government for live human translation services for Teams, which meant a professional among a network of interpreters could dial into meetings upon request.
In 2022 Microsoft also announced its intelligent message translation for Teams chat on mobile devices. This enabled iOS and Android users to translate a chat message into their preferred language, with M. Microsoft statedped these services would foster better collaboration between users who speak different native languages.
