Acquisitions in the UK unified communications sector accelerated in Q1 this year, according to Arrowpoint Advisory.

Arrowpoint said that the number of acquisitions climbed 27 percent year on year to 23.

This trend has carried on from 2020 when full-year acquisitions doubled to 62 – the busiest year of the last 10 years and eclipsing the previous high of 46 in 2016.

M&A in UC industry increasesIan Guilfoyle, Director at Arrowpoint Advisory, said: “As the world becomes increasingly digital, we’ve seen increasing M&A activity within the unified communications sector.

“The pandemic has underscored the importance of these offerings to every business, big or small. This has manifested itself in the robust trading performance of most unified communications providers through lockdown”

“This resiliency coupled with multiple private equity platforms implementing buy-and-build strategies, supported by record levels of dry powder and historically low interest rates, is starting to drive price inflation in the sector. Overall, the market outlook for unified communications looks very promising.”

Arrowpoint, which is part of Rothschild & Co, said that over the last three years the most active buyers have been private equity-backed buy-and-build businesses.

The consultancy added that strong recurring revenue is the biggest driver for businesses looking to acquire.
