RingCentral has been awarded Cyber Essentials Plus status in the UK.

The UCaaS vendor said it won the accreditation following an audit by Manchester-based cybersecurity firm NCC Group.

Steve Rafferty, UKI Country Manager at RingCentral, said: “Trust is the currency of business communications.

“We are committed to ensuring that our customers can rely on the highest standards of security, compliance, and privacy.

“Our focus on adding the Cyber Essentials Plus certification is part of that commitment and assures our existing and future customers across the public and private sector that we’re focused on embracing the very highest standards”

RingCentral added that the accreditation “underpins the company’s commitment as a key supplier of services to the public sector”.

Cyber Essentials is government-backed scheme designed to help businesses protect themselves against cyberattacks, as well as prove their competency to potential customers.

The programme is split into two tiers with the top-level “plus” tier, which RingCentral has achieved, requiring an on-site audit to obtain.

The accreditation is mandatory for bidding on some government tenders.

The firm’s US entity, RingCentral Inc, was awarded the status in March last year, joining the likes of Zoom, Microsoft, Cisco, 8×8 and Mitel in holding the credential.

RingCentral ended 2020 with a bang, announcing the acquisition of AI-focused DeepAffects.

Meanwhile the adoption of video conferencing rocketed during the pandemic last year, leading to concerns over cybersecurity and data protection.

A host of providers, including Zoom and Microsoft, are in dialogue with privacy watchdogs around the world in order to prove they have appropriate protocols in place.
