Verizon has revealed it is the first US carrier to enable Teams Phone Mobile as it launches Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams.

Customers will be able to make or receive external calls using a single Verizon business-provided number which will provide the ability to collaborate from any location.

Users can use their mobile device’s native dialer to receive calls as a Teams endpoint and create a unified business communications experience.

Sowmyanarayan Sampath, Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Business, commented: “What we’re hearing from customers is a need for the true mobilisation of unified communications and collaboration to support their hybrid work environment.

“We’re proud to be the first operator in the United States to unleash Teams Phone Mobile and to help customers further mobilise their workforce through the addition of Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams to our robust suite of collaboration and calling solutions.

“This is yet another example of how we’re helping customers to adapt and succeed in today’s changing workplace by delivering the flexibility to work from anywhere.”

According to Verizon, customers can have a mobile unified collaboration and communication experience that minimises costs and security risks.

The company states that the following features are the key benefits of Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams:

  • Super call quality: Teams made with the smartphone’s native dialer will be treated as voice calls on the Verizon LTE network. This is done to ensure that call quality is not compromised.
  • Simplicity: Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams provides a single phone number across devices, delivering simplicity for users. This is designed to give employees the flexibility of being able to work from anywhere without losing business presence.
  • Seamless call transfer: Users can move between their devices and Teams endpoints during a call without the need to hang up and restart the call.
  • Cost savings: According to Verizon, the integrated calling solution can replace stand-alone solutions. The company says the Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams helps to reduce costs while keeping employees connected.
  • Security: Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams allows organisations to enforce secure and compliant business policies on all employee communications. This provides peace of mind to industries with strict compliance laws.

The company states that Verizon Mobile for Microsoft Teams is the latest in its solutions. It allows organisations to enable hybrid workers to communicate and collaborate within the Microsoft Teams platform.

Verizon also empowers customers with products such as Verizon Calling with Microsoft Teams (direct routing) and Verizon VoIP for Operator Connect.

The carrier can also offer customers the ability to use the BlueJeans Gateway for Microsoft Teams.

Formerly known as Operator Connect Mobile, the technology giant rebranded the service as Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile at Ignite 2022.

The integration allows for a SIM-enabled number across mobile, desktop and Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile is a fixed-mobile convergence that combines a user’s carrier service and the collaboration platform.

Speaking at the event in October last year, Bindu Pillai, Product Marketing Lead at Microsoft, said: “Microsoft Teams Phone delivers rich communication and collaboration with Teams Phone VoIP calling capabilities complemented by an enterprise-grade public switched telephone network (PSTN) service.

“Earlier this year, we shared our vision for using a single, business-provided phone number as a user’s mobile and Teams Phone number, enabling new levels of mobility, flexibility, and efficiency.

“This resonated with organisations responsible for supporting a mobile and hybrid workforce.

“Teams Phone Mobile, previously known as Operator Connect Mobile, is now available for Rogers Business customers in Canada and Telia customers in Sweden.

“BT, Deutsche Telekom, Swisscom, and Verizon will expand Teams Phone Mobile market coverage in coming months.”

In September 2022, Deutsche Telekom announced that it would be the only provider in Germany to offer “Mobile für Microsoft Teams” as the platforms unite to provide a rounded UC experience to customers.
