What is Interoperability?

Find out what interoperability means in the telecoms world. Also known as 'interop'.

Interoperability in the telecoms world means that two systems are guaranteed to work together.

A detailed series of tests are carried out by both parties to certify that the platforms (more often software) reliably work together.

Most commonly we see interoperability testing and certification being carried out by a phone system vendor and a SIP trunking network. I.e Mitel (vendor) and Gamma Networks (SIP trunking vendor).

Interoperability is also referred to as 'interop'.

It is crucial that Tech buyers check for interoperability between chosen partners before purchasing products and services.

If no interop exists then support is typically refused by the service provider causing considerable discomfort for the customer reporting the fault.
