Workspace Drives Google Cloud Growth

Google Cloud revenue passed $4bn as Workspace and G Suite drove hybrid work growth, with security and Google Cloud Platform adoption, published on UC Today.

Google Workspace drives Google Cloud growth

Google has seen its cloud revenue pass the $4bn mark in Q1 with Workspace a driving factor, according to CEO, Sundar Pichai. The unit, which also houses Google Cloud Platform, saw sales rise 46 per cent year on year to $4.05bn, while losses narrowed from $1.7bn to $974m. Pichai highlighted Workspace, formally named G Suite, as the third of three components driving cloud growth. “We continue to deliver helpful innovations to enable hybrid work with Google Workspace,” he said. “This includes digital tools for front-line workers like nurses and retail store workers, as well as new security offerings.

“These innovations have helped grow our revenue per seat and the number of seats in the last quarter”

“Workspace is being adopted by customers including Verily in healthcare, Sun Life in financial services and Airbus in manufacturing and aviation.” Pichai said the other two areas driving cloud growth are data analytics and cloud infrastructure migration. He added Google Cloud Platform’s sales growth is “meaningfully above” the growth of the overall cloud unit. Total sales for Google parent company Alphabet grew 34 per cent year on year to $55.3bn. Operating income was up 30 per cent to $16.4bn. Google Search continues to be the main revenue driver, accounting for 57 per cent of total sales.
