Banishing Disruptive Noise from Google Meet

Google Meet now removes background noise for G Suite Enterprise and Education, helping remote workers stay clear on web calls. Published on UC Today.

Google Meet noise cancellation

Google, like many of the leaders in the cloud collaboration environment lately, is making some significant upgrades to its meetings tool. Google Meet, the service for video conferencing in the G Suite, is getting a handy update to support the growing remote work landscape.

Google-Meet-Gallery-ViewAs more team members struggle to stay productive from a home office or living room, Google Meet is implementing new tools to filter out distractions. Namely, you can now filter out background noise intelligently with your Google Meet conversation. The service will automatically detect and filter out annoying noise like doors opening, keyboard clacking, and even your neighbour outside.

Removing Disruptions from Remote Work

Using cloud-based artificial intelligence, Google is plucking some of the unnecessary noise out of the meeting, while still ensuring that your voice gets through loud and clear. Google had announced this highly desirable feature in April, but now it’s rolling out to both G Suite Enterprise and Enterprise for Education. The feature is only available on the web for now.

Google has announced that background noise removal will be available for mobile users in the future. At the moment, admins don’t need to control the feature for users to access it. Instead, all you need to do is go to the Settings menu on Meet and click on the Background Noise option.

The noise cancellation feature is off by default, but it’s available now to web users in most countries. Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, and India began getting extended roll-out on July 30th. However, it’s not available in the UAE, OR South Africa yet.

Reduce Your Workplace Distractions

The noise cancellation feature available from Google Meet will be an exciting new way to take your meetings to the next level. Recently, we heralded the arrival of background blur and custom backgrounds for video conferencing. Combining virtual backgrounds with noise cancellation will allow for a much less distracting conversation.

Google also announced things like low-light mode and tiled layouts for larger calls in April, and we’re expecting to see more updates coming to Meet in the weeks ahead.
