Microsoft brings Yammer Notifications to Teams

Yammer notifications in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft has enabled Yammer notifications in Teams via an app add-on, further enhancing the integrations across the Microsoft 365 suite.

The Yammer Communities app - which launched within the Teams store last year – will now display updates in the Teams Activity feed across web, desktop and mobile.

In a blog post, Microsoft outlined four examples of where the set-up is best used and who can benefit the most.

  • Large scale announcements such as policy updates, safety information, and organisational change
  • Frontline workers and mobile employees who need to access important information and conversations with headquarters from mobile devices
  • Employee communities that span departments such as new employee onboarding, and diversity and inclusion communities
  • Functional communities that connect people to crowdsource solutions, ideate, and share with coworkers (example: hackathons, events, kickoffs)

The add-on, named “Communities” can be installed by searching “Yammer” in the Teams app store, usually located in the bottom left of the Teams window. Microsoft called it “a fully interactive Yammer experience”.

Murali Sitaram, Vice President of Yammer at Microsoft, said:

“We’re continuing to deepen the integration of communities and teams to help organisations achieve more"

“Recently, we’ve added Search to the web, desktop, and mobile apps so you can find and discover community conversations without leaving Teams.

“We’ve also updated the Yammer channel tab to inherit the styling and functionality of the new Yammer. Users will automatically see this change with no action required from them.”

Microsoft has also announced an enhanced tie-up with SAP, revealing plans to “integrate Microsoft Teams with SAP’s intelligent suite of solutions”.

The pair did not reveal much about how this integration will take shape but said it would involve bringing together Teams with solutions such as SAP S/4HANA, Success Factors and Customer Experience.

“The case for digital transformation has never been more urgent,” Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said.

“By bringing together the power of Azure and Teams with SAP’s solutions, we will help more organizations harness the power of the cloud so they can more quickly adapt and innovate going forward.”

Microsoft has continued innovating within Teams at a relentless pace this year, adding features such as Approvals and a new Outlook integration.

Nadella recently hailed Teams as driving the adoption and use of other Microsoft products, while also declaring it as having the potential to be “as big as the internet”.
