ClickUp reveals its research into remote working

ClickUp has released research highlighting the benefits and challenges of remote working, such as fostering greater economic parity within the UK.

The project management application, ClickUp, points to 13 million people across the UK who could move outside their major cities thanks to remote working.

ClickUp suggests such a workforce migration would greatly help the government achieve its Levelling Up plans.

The UK government has pledged to deliver 4G coverage to 95% of the country, amongst other plans to increase equality.

The research found that 53% of British people believe living in a major city is important for their career. However, if career prospects were the same, only 15% of respondents said they would stay in a city.

Amber Coster, VP of Operations, EMEA at ClickUp, said: “The key to spreading economic opportunity across the UK could be staring us in the face.

“The country has already adapted brilliantly to remote working, and there is a huge demand to live and work outside of the main economic hubs.

“There are still some productivity hurdles to be overcome but with the right approach and tools, combined with the government’s commitment to improving connectivity, remote work could play a major role in bringing economic opportunity to everyone.”

Although 45% of workers believe remote working is a possibility for them, ClickUp has also flagged some challenges that need to be addressed to make remote working a permanent option for employees in the UK.

The top five challenges, according to those surveyed, are:

  1. Ways of communicating (19%)
  2. Managing employees (17%)
  3. Managing workloads and projects (17%)
  4. Face-to-face meetings are given too much importance (17%)
  5. Software and tools (16%)

Another problem was highlighted by 44% of workers saying their employers had an average or below-average ability to measure productivity. Only one-fifth (19%) of distributed workforces believe their employers can effectively manage and measure productivity.

Recently, ClickUp has enjoyed a spike in demand in Europe for its productivity solution, grown its EMEA team and released ClickUp Whiteboards.

ClickUp was founded in 2017 and is one of a number of solutions that appeal to companies with remote and hybrid workers. It also has a dedicated application for Microsoft Teams.

The company claims to have helped more than 800,000 teams and millions of users.
