Microsoft Teams is down for thousands of users around the world, with Microsoft attributing the outage to a networking problem.

Thousands of users had reported trouble connecting to services including Outlook and Teams, according to outage tracker Down Detector.

Microsoft has acknowledged the outage on its service health pages but has not commented on the number of people experiencing issues. It said the issue started at 7:05 UTC.

“Users are unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services,” Microsoft added in an update posted at 9am GMT.

[The] Impact is occurring to the following services but is not limited to them: Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, Outlook, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Graph, PowerBi [and] Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

“We’ve isolated the problem to a networking configuration issue, and we are analyzing the best mitigation strategy to address it without causing additional impact. We’ll provide more information once we have additional information.”

Microsoft said it would provide further updates throughout the date when necessary.

Quarterly Results

The outage comes as Microsoft released updated Teams usage numbers, revealing the platform has hit 280 million monthly active users. This is up 10 million on the figure released by Microsoft in January 2022.

Elsewhere, Microsoft revealed that it had added five million Teams Phone PSTN users over the past 12 months.
