Twine has launched a speed networking app for Zoom which allows meeting hosts to match employees in timed conversations.

The US-based employee connection platform, twine, developed the app “twine for Zoom” using the Zoom developer platform.
Twine for Zoom leverages the breakout rooms feature on Zoom, making it quicker and easier for meeting hosts to move participants between the breakout rooms.
Lawrence Coburn, CEO and Co-Founder of twine, said: “We are thrilled to make twine for Zoom available to all Zoom customers.
“At twine we are obsessed with building software that drives serendipity and human connection; twine for Zoom makes building connections among your Zoom attendees as easy as tapping a button.
“Zoom is an incredibly powerful tool, but one thing that’s missing is the concept of serendipity – those magical collisions that used to happen in the hallway, the elevator, and the lobby of the office.
“We believe that these unplanned conversations are crucial for company camaraderie and culture, so we decided to build on Zoom’s emerging developer platform.”
The app uses a combination of technologies, such as tags, spatial modes and automation to make it easy to orchestrate connections over Zoom.
Twine for Zoom has been in development for a year, and it has a waiting list of 1500 companies.
According to Coburn, some of the use cases for companies so far have been All Hands meetings, team meetings, training events, and new hire onboarding. He believes companies that are remote or distributed need twine for Zoom the most.
The app includes a map mode, enabling Zoom meeting hosts to create virtual tables for participants who can move freely from table to table and click to join.
Other features of the app include icebreaker questions, event-wide chat, and task lists.
Taylor McLoughlin, Co-Founder and Head of Product at twine, said: “We’ve built twine for Zoom to enable many, many use cases.”
“Some of the use cases we are seeing in early testing are speed networking at virtual events, new employee onboarding to distributed teams, and all hands/team meetings.”
Coburn revealed the next big release of twine for Zoom would include robust analytics and activities such as icebreakers, topics, and whiteboarding.
The application is free for up to 25 unique users per month. There are also “per event”, business, and enterprise subscription models.
Twine describes itself as an early-stage company founded by event technology veterans. It has raised $4.3m in seed funding, and its customers include Microsoft, Amazon, BP, and others.
