Zoom Takes the Wheel: Ford and Lincoln Turn Cars into Rolling Meeting Rooms

Join Zoom calls from your dashboard – Ford and Lincoln’s new in-car integration brings meetings to the driver’s seat, no phone required.

In a push to redefine in-car productivity, Ford and Lincoln are now offering Zoom integration directly through their latest Digital Experience systems – no smartphone required.

Drivers can join meetings hands-free with audio while driving or enjoy a full video interface from the centre display – but the latter will only be possible while parked.

"This experience is unique because it offers an immersive experience since it is built directly into the vehicle, which is different from using smartphone projection," Chet Dhruna, General Manager, Integrated Services at Ford said in a blog post.

Launching first on a range of 2025 models, including the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, the Zoom app is tailored specifically for in-car use.

A Mobile Office – Is It Safe?

Ford promises a “mobile productivity space” that elevates the typical car ride into something closer to a connected workspace. This follows a larger trend of automakers shifting toward in-car tech ecosystems – and away from the traditional, phone-tethered experience.

The Zoom app rollout underscores that evolution. Built from the ground up in collaboration with Zoom’s engineers, it emphasises a clean interface, distraction-minimised interaction, and hands-free functionality when driving.

But the obvious question remains - how safe can it be to have a meeting while driving?

To access the full video conferencing mode (with people on screen), Ford says customers need to be parked, with the audio-only mode available while driving..

"The Zoom app embedded in the Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience has audio access only while driving," a Ford spokesperson told UC Today.

While parked only, customers can view the Zoom meeting on the centre display, view upcoming meetings, participants’ video or shared content.

"The Digital Experience, is also a voice first system and customers can use voice activation such as – 'Hey Google change the temperature in the cabin” or “take me to the closest coffee shop.'"

The Zoom app is now live for US customers driving the Ford 2025 Expedition and 2025 Explorer, and the Lincoln: 2024/2025 Nautilus, 2025 Aviator and 2025 Navigator.

Activation requires a Connectivity plan (like Ford’s Connectivity Package), which enables app downloads and other cloud-connected features.

Not Reinventing the Wheel, But Still Handy

While smartphone users have long been able to join Zoom meetings via in-car Bluetooth or Android Auto/CarPlay projection, Ford’s integration offers a more stable and native experience – especially valuable when phone connectivity is spotty or when users prefer a built-in touchscreen interface.

As remote and hybrid work models become permanent fixtures of professional life, we might see more carmakers integrate conferencing, collaboration, and productivity tools into the dashboard – merging mobility with modern workflows.
