As meeting platforms emerge at the heart of today’s business operations, it’s never been a better time to get involved in the collaboration industry. Wherever you go, companies are relying on web meeting solutions to keep teams connected, and complete important projects. As leaders like Cisco, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams battle for a place at the top of the pile, new vendors are also beginning to emerge.

Vowel, a company that describes itself as the first true meeting platform for remote teams, appeared at the end of October 2020. Vowel makes meetings more productive, actionable, and engaging for today’s teams. With this solution, you can host, plan, record, search, transcribe, and share meetings from the same platform.

According to Co-Founder and CEO, Andrew Berman, Vowel is looking forward to a more permanent future, where anywhere and flexible work reigns supreme. In this landscape, companies need more than just basic telephone functionality – they also need sophisticated platforms for meeting. Vowel doesn’t just support the meeting in the moment, it also makes the content more shareable too.

Transforming the Modern Meeting

According to Co-founder and Head of Product, Matt Slotkin, meetings are essential to businesses of all sizes, but they’re often horrendously unproductive. Vowel aims to make our discussions more effective in a critical and transformative time. Vowel offers a central hub for meeting information, with features like:

  • Live recording and transcription of meetings
  • Shared agendas with the option to assign specific tasks
  • The ability to mark important points during a meeting, and arrange follow-ups
  • The option to create action items during a meeting
  • More searchable and shareable meeting transcripts
  • Access to all of your favourite tools, like Slack, and Google Calendar
  • Secure encryption to protect your data
  • Google authentication to prevent against unwanted attendees
  • Great sound, at all times, no annoying echo

Co-CEO at Resident Home, Ran Reske, said that as his business became more distributed, Vowel helped his team to get more out of their meetings. Reske noted that product meetings rely on ensuring the topics covered in the discussion are actionable.

A New Way to Manage Meetings

Driving the arrival of Vowel on the collaboration market is a $4.3 million chunk of seed funding from Co-Founder of Twitch, Kevin Lin, Company Ventures, BoxGroup, and Amity Ventures.

As General Partner of Amity Ventures, Peter Bell, said, unproductive meetings are a common issue for many companies, and leaders keep piling on solutions that claim to make these discussions more efficient. Unfortunately, many of these offerings fail to deliver. However, Vowel offers a genuine solution to an age-old problem. Amity Ventures believes that Vowel is arriving on the market at just the right time, as we look towards a future with a distributed workforce.
