Zoom was one of the companies that achieved the most significant growth during the 2020 pandemic. As people from all walks of life returned to their homes to avoid spreading ailments, Zoom promised to keep us all connected. In the workplace, people turned to Zoom for crucial face-to-face meetings and interactions. In the consumer world, people downloaded Zoom as a way to host at-home pub quiz events and stay close to family.

At the forefront of the video conferencing revolution, Zoom achieved a stock price increase of more than 500% throughout the course of the year. Let’s not forget that the Q3 financial results of the company were exceptionally high, too, with revenues of around $777.2 million.

On the back of all that success, Zoom is keen to innovate, grow, and transform even further. Reports from The Information indicate that the videoconferencing provider might soon try it’s luck in other areas of the digital productivity landscape too.

Could Zoom Conquer More of the Workplace?

As companies continue to look forward to reduced lockdown restrictions and more hybrid working experiences, Zoom isn’t content to just be the go-to solution for UCaaS. Building on an exciting portfolio of chat, business phone services, and video, the company may now be creating a new calendar and web email service too.

The presence of a calendar app and email service would bring Zoom into the same category as Google and Microsoft, which both offer a wide range of productivity services in the same vein. Sources say that the Zoom email service could appear within the first quarter of 2021, although the calendar app may take a little longer.

According to the people commenting on the potential new products, CEO, Eric Yuan, is envisioning a future where he can broaden the videoconferencing service Zoom has today into a complete platform, similar to G Suite or the Microsoft Office environment. However, Yuan is keen to go above and beyond previous iterations of similar tools, by discovering what the next generation of calendar and email apps might look like.

An Interesting Power Move for Zoom

Zoom has committed to consistently staying one step ahead of the curve during the pandemic and recently announced a slew of exciting updates to come during the 2020 Zoomtopia event. OnZoom and Zoom apps are likely to make the service even more appealing for businesses navigating the new working landscape.

However, despite constant innovation from the Zoom developers, the company still faces stiff competition from market leaders like Google, Microsoft, and Cisco. Branching out into new productivity tools, like calendar apps and email services, could be the key to giving Zoom the extra boost it needs.

Currently, Zoom has over 350 million daily meeting participants, which is a massive jump from its usage figures last year. There’s no denying that the potential is there for Zoom to leverage some new momentum. The presence of Zoom’s new features and the continued steps the company takes to drive new results for business users is keeping the company’s name on everyone’s lips. Amazon even expanded its partnership with Zoom at the end of November, giving it continued access to the cloud leader’s exceptional infrastructure.

For now, information about the potential email and calendar applications are limited, so it’s impossible to say whether they’ll go ahead or not. However, if Zoom does move in this direction, we could easily have a new tech giant on our hands.
