Zoom has appointed Kimberly Storin as its new Chief Marketing Officer to oversee the branding and communications of the AI-powered all-in-one collaboration platform.

At Zoom, Storin will lead the company’s brand, communications, product marketing, enterprise marketing, and regional marketing functions. She takes over from Janine Pelosi, who departed Zoom in 2023 to become CEO of video collaboration company Neat.

“I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined Zoom as Chief Marketing Officer!” Storin wrote on LinkedIn.

Long before stepping into this role, I was a passionate Zoom customer—both in business and personally. I’ve trusted Zoom for everything from critical enterprise meetings to large-scale All Hands and SKOs to connecting with friends and family. I’ve seen firsthand how it transforms the way people work, collaborate, and communicate.”

Storin joins from Zayo Group, a comms and bandwidth infrastructure firm, where she served as CMO since 2021. Prior to that, she led marketing at software provider RapidDeploy and held senior marketing leadership positions at major tech companies, including IBM, AMD, and Dell.

“Now, with AI at the core of a secure and trusted platform, Zoom is shaping the future of connection in ways far beyond video,” Storin added. “I’m excited to help tell that story alongside an incredible team as we unlock the next chapter of growth and innovation.”

Is This Appointment to Help Affirm Zoom’s Rebrand as an All-in-One AI Collab Platform?

Given that the CMO role has been vacant for two years, why might Zoom be looking to hire someone to fill the position now? This move is likely to support Zoom’s ongoing brand evolution from the video conferencing tool it became famous for during the pandemic to the comprehensive collaboration platform underpinned by AI it is today.

“Two big changes over the past two years: The company made two big pivots,” Dave Michels, a leading Analyst and Founder at TalkingPointz, suggested on LinkedIn. “First it went from meetings to workplace (don’t think of a Zoom as video company). Just as that was becoming normal, Zoom transitioned again to an AI-first company. It’s not an OpenAI or Anthropic, but ZAIC has a much larger vision than enabling comms and collaboration. The EC25 keynote was all about AI-assisted workflows across multiple workloads.”

Michels also highlighted several organisational changes within Zoom that could signpost restructuring within a BU (business unit) model. Chris Morrissey was recently appointed GM and Global Head of CX, while Vi Chau was named GM of Online Business, and Chris Moss became Head of Platform.

“The corporate team (CEO, CTO, CPO, CFO, etc.) are there to support these BUs, and the time is right for a CMO,” Michels said.

There is also the possibility of Zoom reinforcing its brand position in the CX space in the future, too, a further pivot where having an effective CMO on board might help support, especially with the accelerating success of Zoom Contact Center behind it. As Blair Pleasant, President and Principal Analyst at COMMfusion, noted in replying to Michels: “Zoom hasn’t been a video company for quite a while — I’m even expecting CX to be their lead product within 5 years.”

Zoom Launches AI-Powered ‘Tasks’ Capability to Supercharge Productivity

Last week, Zoom unveiled Zoom Tasks, an AI-enhanced project and task management tool designed to elevate productivity across the modern workplace.

Integrated within the Zoom Workplace platform, Zoom Tasks leverages AI to intelligently extract actionable tasks from meeting summaries and chat interactions. The system proactively identifies follow-ups, assigns responsibilities, and can even begin executing certain tasks pending user review and approval. This automation helps teams maintain clarity, stay aligned, and move projects forward more efficiently.

Powered by AI Companion, Zoom Tasks is available to users on select paid Zoom Workplace plans.
