Cisco has unveiled the Wireless Cisco Phone 800 series to provide frontline workers with a quality phone that can handle more ‘wear and tear’.

According to Cisco, it is the first smartphone series for demanding jobs such as hospitals, construction sites, warehouses, and more.

The company has made the phone capable of supporting native registration to Webex Call and Control Hub and on-premise CUCM registration.

Brooke Bode, Product Marketing Manager at Webex, commented: “From nurses in the emergency room to construction workers on-site, frontline workers need a quality wireless phone that can handle more wear and tear.

“The first smartphone for demanding jobs, the Wireless Cisco Phone 800 series answered this call, offering reliable communication and simple management.

“Regardless of which registration and which of the four phone models you choose, reliable and secure communication is guaranteed for end users, and management is simple for network administrators.”

Cisco Wireless Phone 800 Series

The Wireless Phone 800 series is made up of four different models, which are designed to offer companies the choice of selecting the one that best meets their needs.

The four models include the following:

  • Cisco Wireless Phone 840: The 840 is IP65 ruggedised and features a swappable battery for shift work. The phone’s four-inch Dragtontail glass touch screen is water and dust-resistant. It also includes a 5MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera
  • Cisco Wireless Phone 840S: This model includes all the features of the 840 but also has a scanner for inventory
  • Cisco Wireless Phone 860: Cisco states that the 860 is IP60 ruggedised and has a hot-swappable battery for 100 per cent uptime. The phone comes with a 5.2-inch Gorilla glass touch screen and is chemical resistant
  • Cisco Wireless Phone 860S: Much like the 840S, this model mirrors all the features of the 860. The 860S included a scanner for patient medication

Cisco states that all models are compatible with single and multi-unit charging stations.

The phones also have built-in applications that are designed to increase workforce productivity.

Some of the applications allow users to do the following:

  • Monitor the phone’s battery life
  • Customise the phone’s buttons to best suit specific organisations
  • If configured, the phone can send group broadcasts via push-to-talk
  • Provide emergency safety features such as alarms and motion monitoring
  • Scan barcodes on products to easily monitor inventory levels
  • Check call quality in real-time
  • IT administrators can remotely control the volume level of notification sounds

Native Registration to Webex Calling and Control Hub

Cisco has designed the Wireless Phone 800 series to enable native registration to Webex Calling and Control Hub.

Network administrators can easily manage and monitor wireless devices at remote sites.

Cisco states that call audio is secure through ‘next-level’ encryption, even on regular internet connections.

Webex Calling provides users with the following:

  • Device control from Control Hub
  • Phones can be registered over the internet
  • Calling experience specific to Webex Calling
  • Investment protection for customers that are on-premise with the flexibility to securely move to the cloud in the future
  • Firmware deployments from the cloud keep devices up-to-date

Reliable and Secure

The Wireless Phone 800 series is designed to be durable on the exterior and tough on the interior through Cisco security and network integrations.

The phones feature echo cancellation and noise suppression to ensure that audio on calls is always evident.

The Webex App and Webex Calling applications are pre-installed for enterprise-wide communication and are fully customisable by network administrators.
