Chess has completed its second acquisition in six months with the takeover of The Telephone Number Company (TTNC) to improve its SMB credentials.

TTNC provides a host of services including call management packages, SIP Trunks and bespoke telephone answering services.

David Pollock, Chess Founder and Executive Chairman, said: “We have ambitious growth plans and the acquisition of TTNC sets us up for a great start to the year.

“Small business owners are time poor, so need a knowledgeable and efficient technology partner.

“The addition of The Telephone Number Company will further strengthen our capability to deliver end-to-end services to our small business customers through a fully digital experience.”

TTNC claims to have the biggest range of telephone numbers in the UK, along with 100 percent coverage in many towns and cities. It operates in more than 42 countries.

Mark Burcher, Managing Director of TTNC, said: “I am delighted that TTNC is joining Chess at such a pivotal and exciting time in the industry.

“I’ve always admired how Chess is so passionate about their vision, culture and values, and how they continuously invest in their people, so finding a new home for the TTNC Team and TTNC Customers was an easy choice for me.

“The acquisition will create many opportunities for our people and customers, and I’m excited about the future.”

Chess offers services around unified comms, connectivity and cybersecurity.

Armadillo, the penetration test provider, was acquired less than six months ago for an undisclosed amount.

Chess acquired cybersecurity firm Foursys in 2017, which was estimated to add £11m in turnover to the business. Foursys was rebranded Chess Cybersecurity later that year.

The Chess Company Group’s turnover in 2020 was £101.7m, down 5.3 percent on the previous year.
