Leading provider of cloud communications, contact centre, and collaboration solutions, RingCentral, recently announced a new solution intended to help protect modern companies. As spam and robocalls become more prevalent, RingCentral is accessing its own proprietary AI data to launch a plan of attack. The solution participates in tracebacks within the industry, enabling the discovery of bad actors in a calling environment.

The RingCentral is also contributing to industry groups in the deployment of the STIR/SHAKEN strategy for successfully stopping unwanted robocalls and spam. The STIR/SHAKEN authentication framework has helped RingCentral to accurately verify and authenticate traffic routed through the platform, reducing unwanted calls and enhancing security.

Better Security for Business Calls

Recent surveys show that Americans received around 4.9 million robocalls during March 2021, representing a 6.8% increase in volume from the month before. These unwanted interactions are reducing customer trust in voice communication solutions. The FCC has since mandated STIR/SHAKEN as an industry standard for securing telephony identity (revisited), and handing asserted information with signatures and tokens.

The STIR/SHAKEN solution is now mandated for use by all communication providers throughout the US, enabling the signing, authentication, and verification of user identities to reduce call spoofing. According to VP of Product for SMB and Enterprise at RingCentral, Praveen Mamnani, people today are too familiar with the headache of SPAM and robocalls on a daily basis. These calls are often extremely disruptive and come with many risks to consider.

The RingCentral trained datasets and AI-powered offering constantly strives to protect customers from unwanted calls. RingCentral have completed the implementation of the FCC requirements, and has actively helped to support the industry and FCC efforts in deploying STIR/SHAKEN technology to protect customer security.

Adopting the STIR/SHAKEN Framework

RingCentral stands out as an early adopter of the new STIR/SHAKEN framework. The company has been supporting millions of calls for months leading up to the implementation deadline, ensuring that calls can be tagged correctly as legitimate. Furthermore, RingCentral has advocated that all providers should be part of this effort because the more calls are signed, the easier it will be to enhance framework accuracy.

RingCentral’s proprietary system uses AI algorithms alongside the STIR/SHAKEN solution to make its platform as trustworthy and unique as possible compared to other UCaaS platforms in the current market.
