Tollring, a leader in telecoms communications, recently announced the arrival of a new solution to defend against spam and scam calls. The “Scam Protect” cloud-based solution promises telecom providers access to a way to reduce risk in the modern world. The service will assist in protecting networks and customers, while meeting regulatory obligations.
Data from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau in the UK indicates that around £373 million was lost by repeat victims of fraud in the 2019/2020 financial year. Scam calls are often a major contributor to this figure, and around 30% of all UK call traffic is estimated to come from scam calls, placing phone companies under more pressure to act.
Addressing New Scam Protection Demands
The Australian Communication and Media Authority, commonly referenced as ACMA has introduced a new compulsory code of practice in December 2020, requiring telcos to monitor their networks and use processes to block scam calls. Companies also need to share the evidence of their work with other telecommunications companies, and the ACMA. The UK will likely have a similar solution in place going into 2022.
Tollring is keen to get ahead of the new regulations with the Scam Protect offering, which provides cloud-based calling companies with access to an easy way of identifying and defending against scam calls. The solution uses intelligent algorithms to automatically analyse call traffic, identify irregularities, and pinpoint fraudulent activity. Downloadable data also means CSPs can block future calls from potential fraudulent lines.
The Scam Protect solution captures information at a network level, protecting against international call spoofing, and ensuring that call CLI is relevant to the required IP address or trunking group. The offering also protects against robocalling fraud, SMS phishing, and “Wangiri” calls, where victims return a call after appearing to “miss” one.
CEO of Tollring, Tony Martino, said scam calls are a blight on businesses and consumers alike, with scammers growing increasingly sophisticated in their ability to threaten our safety. The cost to today’s victims is personally and financially devastating. With more people working from home, and more conversations taking place on IP networks, the demand for protection is huge.
Taking Control of Calling Safety
According to Martino, Tollring created this new solution to assist providers in taking control of call traffic and ensuring security for their callers and businesses in the face of mounting pressure. As regulators continue to look to service providers to mitigate risk, Scam Protect is here to help.
Delivered through the cloud, the platform-agnostic solution is scalable, easy to set up, and equipped with the ability to monitor countless endpoints. The solution uses comprehensive behaviour profiling based on recent scam calling intelligence to deliver insights into network call traffic and help providers understand their exposure.
