The encryption covers both cloud-connected meeting room devices, and cloud video software. The release will automatically deploy with a rolling strategy in the third quarter of this year.
As part of the new offering, all customers with a Lifesize connection will gain access. Both free and paid subscribers will be able to encrypt any video meeting. The end-to-end coverage will cover desktop, web, and mobile applications. There’s also coverage for the 4k systems for meeting room technology from Lifesize.
Responding to COVID-19 with Lifesize Tech
Although the demand for video meetings has increased consistently in the last few years, the arrival of COVID-19 has accelerated the path to cloud. In response to the pandemic, companies have adopted video as a way to ensure remote teams can communicate and collaborate. However, today’s companies want to ensure that the video meetings they have are secured.
In a published piece during April 2020, the Senior Research Director of Gartner, Mike Fasciani, highlighted the value of video meetings being secure. this concept has growing increasingly critical in the wake of less than secure solutions on the market. Issues like zoombombing have left customers increasingly worried about how their data moves on the cloud.
Security will always be a critical part of assessing any enterprise-grade solution for meeting rooms. The recent exposure of security and privacy vulnerabilities has only increased this concern. Today’s enterprise video service providers must ensure that video and video solutions aren’t just easy-to-use and feature rich – they need to be sure too. Video technology requires a systematic approach to security and protection for data collected from customers.
Securing the Modern Meeting Room
Following the release of the end-to-end experience for security from Lifesize (E2EE) hosts within a Lifesize solution will be able to encrypt all meetings.
This support is available for free plans and paid plans. Additionally, the encryption will cover video and audio. A key will be available to securely share among all meeting participants. Additionally, media will be encrypted from each participant, and it will remain encrypted when in transit.
As the demand for video for collaboration and communication accelerates, business leaders can’t afford to take chances. Meetings and conversations need proper encryption to ensure that business leaders can stay in line with the latest compliance requirements.
Lifesize servers going forward will only offer access to people who have the secure key generated for your video and audio meeting. Lifesize is also going to be rolling out the option for customers to manage encryption keys on their end. This will allow for even more control for companies in highly regulated environments.
After applying the end-to-end encryption option, PSTN call participants, meeting recordings, and support for any third-party devices in the conference room will disappear temporarily. At this critical point in communication history, this extra layer of protection will be crucial to defending companies from all backgrounds.
Preparing for the Age of Video
Now that video meetings are often the “norm” for many remote working companies, there’s no excuse for compromising on security. According to the Chief Technology Officer for Lifesize Bobby Beckmann, during this critical juncture for video, having the right IP security and trying to force it into an application will cause more problems than solutions.

Security needs to be the primary focus of a business from day one with video conferencing. Lifesize is helping with this by ensuring that protection is available for all customer data. Protection for sensitive communications and conversations is available whether you’re a paid client or not.
Delivering end-to-end protection for all customers around the world will reinforce the Lifesize commitment to address any and all of the challenges that customers might face. When it comes to creating secure meeting rooms, Lifesize wants to help customers hit the challenge head-on. This will be critical as businesses continue to innovate for the new age of technology and collaboration.
What’s more, Lifesize also refuses to compromise on experience for security too. Customers will still get an easy-to-use experience.
