IT administrators have a lot of challenges to handle in their roles. As the workplace becomes increasingly digital, the IT team needs to keep track of everything from communication tool performance, to keeping the collaboration hub running smoothly.

Sometimes, it can feel as though today’s IT professionals need superhuman powers to contend with all the modern challenges that they have to face. As employees continue to explore new ways of working, from remote interactions, to BYOD, the demand on IT experts is greater than ever. That’s why it’s so important for today’s teams to have access to the tools they need to empower the rest of the workforce.

Leading communication and collaboration company, Cisco, recently introduced their new Cisco Webex Control hub to transform everyday IT professionals into superheroes.

The New Webex Control Hub

Cisco’s new control hub makes life easier for the IT admin by giving them unlimited access to rich insights and overviews within the Webex Control Hub. Not so long ago, Cisco’s Abhay Kulkarni, released a blog talking about Webex Meeting diagnostics, and how Cisco is investing more into this area to give IT teams better visibility and support.

The advanced diagnostics experience is now up and running in the Cisco Webex Control Hub, giving businesses simple R/Y/G visuals and helping them to narrow in on the participants that potentially suffer from poor experiences. Additionally, Cisco is also providing deep-dive insights into granular details about individual environments within the hub, offering overviews of how clients are connected, what peripherals they’re using and more. The hub even offers quality metrics as they trend over time about things like laptop performance.

According to Cisco, one of the biggest challenges involved in designing the kind of diagnostics software that today’s IT admins need, is creating solutions in a way that meets the needs of the most sophisticated administrator, while making it easier for Help Desk personnel to understand how to use the system too. The Cisco Webex Teams hub is designed to combine advanced tools with simplicity, for a more advanced experience for everyday IT.

Giving IT Teams X-Ray Vision

The new control hub from Cisco is intended to provide today’s IT teams with the in-depth visibility they need to serve and support their teams. Cisco has taken a simple and straightforward approach to design, using colour-coded elements in the user interface to highlight problem participants at the top of the feed for IT experts. From there, professionals can drill down into each individual and get detailed metrics on that person with just one click.

The unique design means that IT admins can immediately see where problems lie in a meeting, as well as getting deeper insights into specific participants. In today’s BYOD world, there are various variables that could have an impact on a person’s performance or security levels. The drill-down option provides IT with a scrollable view of all the health metrics for a participant’s voice, video, and sharing solutions.

Additionally, Help Desk Personnel can also use the Cisco Webex Hub to immediately see how many people are participating in a meeting, when they joined the conversation, who hosted the meeting, and which participants are suffering from issues with quality of service.

The latest release offers a fantastic overview of insights into each individual user for the IT team and helpdesk group working with Cisco Webex Teams. Some of the rich insights that businesses will be able to access include:

  • CPU utilisation for both application and systems over time
  • Quality of service metrics over time across video, voice, and sharing
  • Insights into how users joined a meeting
  • Peripheral details (camera, headsets, speakers, etc)
  • The device type, model and make being used
  • The client type and version for both browser and OS

Getting to the Root of Problems Fast

The wide range of insights available to Cisco Webex Teams users and administrators today will help IT, teams, to get to the root of problems as quickly as possible. The definitional and beta customers that have already had a chance to test this service out have been delighted by the results.

The Advanced Diagnostics features within the Webex Control Hub became available for the first time on August 30th for all Webex customers in the standard environment. You can try the new capability out now and give Cisco your feedback to help the company continue to drive better results for today’s teams.
