Why Q-SYS Is Betting Big on the Full Stack AV Platform—and Why IT Leaders Should Pay Attention

As IT leaders constantly look to streamline infrastructure and elevate workplace experiences, Q-SYS is making a compelling case for a new form of AV architecture that treats audio, video, control, and data not as siloed systems but as one unified, cloud-native platform.

In a new video interview set to premiere on UC Today, Patrick Heyn, VP of Q-SYS Marketing at QSC, explores why the brand is rethinking the orthodox AV stack and what it means for tech decision-makers striving to deliver more innovative, scalable, and future-proof ecosystems for their organisations.

Full Stack AV is Much, Much More Than a Buzzword

At the heart of the Q-SYS game plan is an evolution from fragmented AV environments to a software-based platform approach that leverages real-time data, multimodal I/O, and a single advanced operating system. As Heyn puts it, this is about reimagining what IT leaders should expect from an AV system in 2025 and beyond.

The platform ethos unveiled at Q-SYS Activate earlier this month focuses on breaking down silos and making AV smarter and more manageable at scale. With launches like the Q-SYS Core 24 and overhauled automation tools in the Q-SYS VisionSuite, its ambition is to transform meeting spaces, collaboration zones, and even shared areas like hallways and cafeterias into seamless, intuitive working environments.

“For the actual person that is experiencing it in the room or on the remote end, that technology just should feel invisible,” Heyn said. “It should wash over them like water. It should not be an impediment. It should not be a source of fear. It should be a conduit for communication with each other.”

Smarter Systems, Tangible Outcomes

Heyn outlines that the Q-SYS platform’s emphasis on real-time responsiveness and adaptability empowers it to stand out. Utilising live data from across the AV environment, not just from Q-SYS devices but also third-party endpoints, the system can automate lighting, trigger displays, or frame speakers dynamically, all without manual input or rigid presets.

“Q-SYS is able to take in not just data from its native devices, but every device connected to Q-SYS can be a source of data for Q-SYS to iterate on and generate insights from,” Heyn said.

This strategy naturally refines the end-user experience but also simplifies the work lives of IT admins. With fewer subsystems to oversee, reduced integration complexity, and future-proof scalability elegantly baked in, the cost-to-value ratio is supercharged. It’s about doing more with less while also very simply doing it better.

Designing AV for Scale and Simplicity

Rather than focusing on individual rooms, Heyn urges tech leaders to view AV as one thread of a larger digital fabric. From boardrooms to open-plan lounges, today’s organisations badly need consistency, automation, and the capacity to scale across multiple locations with ease and on their own timelines.

With Q-SYS, they can start small, deploying the platform in a single room, and scale up without costly “rip and replace” cycles: “Q-SYS is designed with scalability in mind,” Heyn said. “We invite people to think as big or as small with Q-SYS as they want, and we’ll get their back as they decide to scale and expand what a platform can do for them.”

This deep-dive discussion is brimming with insight for CIOs, heads of IT and AV, and workplace transformation leaders looking to future-proof their AV strategies. Stay tuned for the full video interview with Patrick Heyn, premiering soon on UC Today, just ahead of Q-SYS showcasing at InfoComm 2025.
