Ment.io is a discussion analysis platform for boosting student engagement and learning outcomes. The company was founded in 2015 and has held a total of 4 funding rounds. In the last round in 2018, Ment.io raised $6 million with participation from Slack Fund – the collaboration company’s venture capitalist arm.

Ment.io stands out because of its unique discussion analysis capability and artificial intelligence algorithm. That helps you structure discussions more effectively, recognise biases, and understand the insights generated from every discussion. Every user’s voice can be heard with Ment.io, as it creates an inclusive learning environment, and you can grade student participation in group discussion scenarios. To achieve this, Ment.io integrates with several learning and collaboration platforms, including Moodle and Microsoft Teams.

Ment.io announced its Teams app in February 2020. Not just designed for educators and learners; any user or team can leverage the platform to improve the discussion process to arrive at better decisions. Using the Ment.io app, Teams users can initiate asynchronous discussions where others can comment, like, unlike, and view related activity. Visualise the discussion using colour-coded charts and graphs powered by Ment.io’s discussion analyser AI. The finalised answer on a discussion is assigned with a score that indicates how effectively and inclusively you were able to arrive at a decision.

Let us review this capability in more detail.

Inside Ment.io for Microsoft Teams

While Ment.io focuses on education as its primary use case, the Teams app is designed for AI-driven decision-making to drive better collaboration in whatever sector you may be operating in. you can download Ment.io from Microsoft AppSource. You can also visit the Teams application marketplace from the left navigation pane. Remember that you’ll need to purchase an admin license for $95 per month, which includes unlimited students/users and unlimited discussions.

Here are the key features that you can expect with Ment.io for Teams:

  • The Ment.io messaging extension – The Ment.io messaging extension allows you to insert an existing discussion from the platform into a conversation on Teams. Look for the Ment.io icon right below the compose message area and click to reveal the Ment.io dropdown list. Choose an ongoing discussion from the list or start a new discussion altogether.
  • Creating new discussions – The Ment.io app lets you launch a new discussion on Teams, complete with a title (question), description, due date, and attachments. You can ask virtually any question as necessary, from brainstorming new product ideas to planning company events or conducting informal conversations.
  • Asynchronous discussions – One of the most significant advantages of using Ment.io is that it allows for asynchronous discussions without everyone having to be available simultaneously. This is convenient and inclusive – employees in different time zones won’t miss out on the discussion and can share their inputs when they are most productive. Caregivers can participate in discussions and brainstorming sessions by working around their schedules.
  • Pinned discussions as channel tabs – While users can share their inputs on a discussion directly from channel conversations, you can also pin the discussion as a tab. A discussion tab reveals all the answers received, answer scores as per the Ment.io AI algorithm, comments, and analytics. In other words, channel tabs enable a full-featured experience (apart from only collecting inputs) in Teams.
  • AI-based scoring – Ment.io’s key differentiating feature is its Ai algorithm that assigns a score to every response. As mentioned, the score is calculated based on several parameters that tell you the response’s veracity and its inclusive nature.

Why the Ment.io App Makes a Difference

Ment.io is the first of its kind. It is the only app that can assess and organise responses based on the user’s expertise so that voices don’t get drowned out, and there is complete transparency around every discussion.

What We Think

At $95 or $250 per month, Ment.io can reveal surprising insights into how your company conducts discussions, arrives at decisions, and if it listens to every point of view.
