What has been your business/work highlight of 2024 so far?
Every day has a new batch of highlights. I get to work with some of the largest companies in the world and help them choose, plan, deploy and run the video collaboration solutions they use with Teams Rooms (and Zoom and Google Meet rooms).
Who is your business hero and why?
There are so many heroes that I admire. Basically, anyone who goes out of their way to help others succeed is a hero.
What’s the biggest business mistake you’ve made and what did you learn from it?
Procrastination and taking too long to execute. I am too cautious or risk-averse at times. All the decisions I have made have resulted in great things. If I had made them earlier, I would have been longer down the road I am on. But I don’t think I would change anything.
What’s the most inspirational book you’ve ever read and why?
Most of the reading I do is horror or Sci-Fi. However, the books that made the biggest impact were the MCSE 2003 Microsoft blue books when I got my first help desk job. Four thick books that gave me the base knowledge I needed to get on and succeed in my IT career. And Lync 2010 Unleashed when I was getting serious about Microsoft UC (rather than just dabbling).
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role in 2024?
Finding the time to do all the things I want to do.
What technology will have the greatest impact on your business this year and why?
It might sound cliché, but collaborative AI. I’ve been playing with Copilot since getting a license, and I am genuinely astonished by what it can do. It is great to see that other collaboration and meeting platforms are also adopting their own AI tools. As long as they are used responsibly, they can be transformative. Embrace them and see how they can help you. Don’t worry, they won’t replace you.
