It’s been another unusual week in the Unified Communication and Collaboration space.

As companies across the globe struggle to stay productive in a world that’s been turned upside down by COVID-19, there’s been an inspiring amount of growth and innovation over the last week.

Organisations are once again beginning to find their footing, empowered by the evolution of remote working opportunities and video collaboration.

This week, we’ve seen the introduction of Zoom’s new referral program, a 5G report from McKinsey, and also one of the biggest Slack redesigns we’ve ever had.

Let’s delve into the biggest stories from the last 7 days.

Say Hello to Zoom’s New Referral Program

Leading video collaboration and communication company, Zoom recently announced the expansion of its Global channel partner program. The business is now delivering a new referral program and partnerships with companies like Intelisys, AVANT Communications, Telarus, and Pax8.

The new partnerships with these “Master Agents,” as Zoom describes them, are designed to expand global channel partner reach. What’s more, this is the first time that partners from Zoom’s referral program will be able to take the new Zoom Phone solution for voice to market too. According to Zoom’s Head of Global Business Development, Laura Padilla, the door is opening to a new avenue for Zoom as a fully-featured UCaaS solution. See the full story here.

McKinsey Publishes New 5G Report

Analytics leader, McKinsey recently published a report on the arrival of 5G in the connectivity and communications world. In this always-on environment, where businesses and individuals alike are more reliant on secure and reliable connections, 5G delivers endless opportunities for scalable and latency-free communications.

According to McKinsey, the economic impact of 5G is likely to be incredible. The report outlines that in mobility, healthcare, and manufacturing, as well as retail, the introduction of 5G could be enough to boost GDP by up to $2 trillion by the time we reach 2030. McKinsey also believes that 5G could reach up to 80% of the globe by the end of this new decade.

Slack Delivers A Massive Redesign

Get ready for a fresh new Slack experience. The leading collaboration company, Slack, introduced one of the most significant sweeping updates that we’ve ever seen to the platform lately. The all-new Slack experience comes with a sleeker and cleaner interface, designed to help teams enjoy better user-friendliness and quicker collaborative experiences.

Slack users will have the option to customise their sidebar, and there’s a new compose button, a navigation bar at the top of the app, and several other changes to explore too. This sophisticated new version of Slack is arriving just in time for the remote work revolution.

WhatsApp and WHO Deliver COVID-19 Facts

Misinformation is dangerous –, particularly in a pandemic. That’s why the World Health Organization (WHO) launched an instant messaging service through WhatsApp to bring information to more than two billion users. The chatbot is accessible 24/7 and is designed to provide information for the general public, as well as health workers and government leaders.

According to WHO, the Health Alert application will include details on symptoms to recognise, and steps that individuals can take to protect themselves, their families, and their community from a further spread of the virus. The chatbot is available access today via WhatsApp and should help to quell the growth of misinformation across the globe.

CCaaS Round Table for 2020

The cloud contact centre is more popular today than ever before. For teams in search of a reliable way to enhance customer experience and offer greater work-life balance to employees, CCaaS is one of the most appealing new technologies on the market. According to reports, the CCaaS environment is set to be worth at least $28.6 billion by 2025.

At UC Today, we reached out to some of the leaders in the communication space to find out what they had to say about the evolution of the CCaaS environment. Check out the latest round table for insights from Genesys, ContentGuru, 8×8, and Nice InContact. Representatives from each of those companies told us not only which trends they’re seeing in CCaaS now but where the industry might be heading in the future.
