Google andΒ CiscoΒ have announced a directional interoperability agreement that will allow meetings on their respective platforms to launch on each otherβs devices.Β
This means Google Meet meetings can be started on CiscoΒ WebexΒ hardware, whileΒ WebexΒ meetings can be started on Google Meet-certified hardware.Β
The partnership is designed to help businesses that use more than one collaboration platform or frequentlyΒ have toΒ use a different platform when speaking to partnersβ employees.Β
SnorreΒ Kjesbu, General Manager ofΒ WebexΒ Devices at Cisco, saidΒ in a blog post:Β Β
Collaboration tools must enable productivity; not deter it with the friction of silos.Β
βThis is precisely why today weβre unveiling interoperability between Google Workspace andΒ Webexβ
βTogether weβre easing this burden for our joint customers. People can now natively join Google Meet video calls fromΒ WebexΒ Devices and in reverse,Β WebexΒ meetings from Google Meet video hardware.βΒ Β
The partnership is designed to make during a meeting from the otherβs hardware as seamless as possible.
WebexΒ users will see the greenΒ WebexΒ One Button to Push prompt flash up next to a Google Meet logo when the meeting approaches, bypassing the need to input meeting IDsΒ or passwords.Β
On Google devices, the meeting will be displayed alongside the message βviaΒ WebexΒ byΒ Webexβ, with the user just needing to tap the button. Ad-hocΒ WebexΒ meetings can be joined by tapping βfind a meetingβ and entering the relevant meeting code.Β
